Question:
Had surgery 7-30-03 and am experiencing severe pain when trying to stand or walk ...

... this pain is on the left lower side and its a burning very sharp pain. There is no incision in that area so its not from an incision. Any ideas?    — TaraLong (posted on August 3, 2003)

I'm of the belief that any new, esp odd, pain after surgery should be checked out asap.

Been there, had that too. Had a CT scan showed nothing. It eventually went away. It would be so bad that I would have to hold myself while standing or walking. Take my word for it, it will go away. If you feel more comfortable call your doctor, I went to see mine and he could not feel anything that would indicate a problem.

I agree with San. This is not the sort of thing you want to self-diagnose. There are things that can happen soon after surgery that are very serious. Call the surgeon today, Sunday!

I had this too from weeks 3-7 and it was horrible. I saw the doctor twice because I thought I tore something. It is just a terrible bruising from the operation and be careful--you can "rebruise" the spot if you have a heavy weight press against it or dancing, etc. See your surgeon and good luck!

I had surgery on 7-21-03, and the pain in that spot lasted until about three days ago....so, as everyone says, get it checked, but I think it's pretty common... I used a heating pad, and although it may have just been psycological, it felt a lot better for me!

Hi Tara, I also had severe pain in this area. I had it before I left the hospital & my surgeon said that there was alot of intestinal work done in that area. It was extremely sore for me for about 10 days.

This is the question poster :) I spoke to my DR. and she is prescribing muscle relaxers to see if it is just muscles that are trying to heal. :)
