Question:
Have you experienced this type of pain?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and yesterday began having pain in left side...kind of where the stomach would be located I guess...not sure. Anyway, this pain is bad, but at the same time it feels like a horrible muscle cramp. It feels like someone is grabbing me inside an squeezing my intestine on the left side. It gets better and then returns. I don't have gas and bowel movements are normalbut it does hurt to strain while using the bathroom. HAs anyone had this happen? It hurts to bend over or cough, sneeze, etc. Please help! Also, I would like to get together with someone online and chat about some things concerning this new life journey of ours. My e-mail address is [email protected] and I also have Yahoo! Messenger if you want to instant message me. Thanks!    — Cindy C. (posted on September 6, 2003)

From the directions my Dr. gave me at my 1 week checkup..NO BENDING! No vacuuming, etc. I dont know what kind of surgery you had, but with my lap rny, the camera went in at the left side, and also there are some internal stitches. But as the previous posters said, if you're in that much pain you should call your surgeon. Good luck!

My surgeon said this type of pain is normal espescially on the left side as that is where they insert the stapler. It has to go through alot of muscle and nerves.I had this pain for about 1 month after surgery.

What you are expereincing is muscle spasms in your old stomach. it is very common and happens about as far out as you are and can continue for awhile after syrgery. But if you are that concerned call your doctor. But you described perfectly muscle spasms.

Cindy I am 5 weeks 5 days out and really only JUST STOPPED having these pains. Everything I read said it was muscle strain from where the instruments went in (the left. Everyone told me it would better in 6 weeks - and it WAS!. I can finally sleep on my left side in small doses. Bowel strain, I am still dealing with. It's like my "bootie mechanics" are all off, or I have to make different muscles. Perhaps it was just easy to "go" pre-op because I was always full of food and had gravity on my side! I have no clue. Hope these get better for you!
