Hi Dawn - First off congratulations on your weightloss! You've done great in nine months. It sounds like you've hit quite a plateau and need to bump it up a notch to get the scale moving again. When I had surgery in August of 2001, I weighed 430 pounds. I lost 19 pounds the first two weeks and then my body went into some kind of hibernation mode where I was only down a total of 42 pounds three months after surgery. Even my doctor was amazed and confessed that I might just be one of those people for whom this wouldn't work. His recommendation was to exercise to the point of exhaustion to try and kick in my metabolism. I did (luckily it didn't take much) and by tweny months out of surgery I had lost 285 pounds. I've lost a great deal of additional weight this past year through plastic surgery to remove the extra skin, but I don't really count that in my weightloss total since I just went to sleep and woke up lighter. SO it can be done! You just have to jumpstart your metabolism to get the scale moving in the right direction. Good luck to you and remember you're not alone. Others are going through it and some have conquered it and are proof that it works. - Traci

Dawn, I was only 251 when I started- a lightweight by others standards- but I am a turtle loser myself. My doctor told me Friday, as I cried in his office over my perception of failure, that it can take 1-2 years for us to get our metabolism back in order. The only way to do this is through proper eating and exercise (which I am doing). Just keep doing things how you are supposed to, and you WILL catch up. I am almost 5 months out and had only lost 47 lbs...4 in the last month. I've upped my exercise routine considerably, and every day it gets easier. Try to force yourself to get your heart rate up...and keep it there...for at least 30 min a day. Challenge yourself, eat right, and in time, it will come off. You should be SO PROUD Of yourself- 110 lbs in 9 months...that is GREAT. Celebrate your accomplishments. I'm learning how to do this instead of focusing on my negatives. Take care, and good luck to you...Shannon Open RNY 2/25/04 251/200/140
