Question:
Seeking Lap Surgeon for Roux-en-y in Cincinnati OH area

Seeking Laparoscopic Roux-en-y Surgeon in the Cincinnati area. I would prefer to have the Lap over Open Roux-en-y surgury, but have not found any Lap surgeons in my area. If you know a Lap surgeon in my area please contact me. Thanks! Kathy My email address: [email protected]    — Kathy H. (posted on September 8, 2000)

Hi! Like you, I live in the Cincinnati area and was interested in lap RNY, but Cincinnati has a pretty slim market when it comes to bariatric surgeons (guess you've learned that one already, huh?) I don't know if Dr. Wes Alexander does lap (through University), but I do know that yes, Dr. Fallang does lap. However, he will also let you know that, while he has no problem doing lap surgery, 1) many insurances do not approve the lap because it does require 2 doctors and it does take twice as long to perform, which means longer anesthesia and operating room time... and that = MORE MONEY. My main reason for wanting lap was better/quicker healing time (and hey, who wants that 4-6" scar?) But given the pros and cons and my own insurance limitations, I'll take the open. The less time you spend under anesthesia, the less likely you will experience post-op complications or... the dreaded PE... Get me in and out as efficiently and safely as possible! LOL! Wes Alexander and Dr. Fallang are the closest surgeons I know of, though, except for perhaps Dr. McGuire in Kettering... You may want to check him out, too. BEST OF LUCK!
