Question:
Will I lose more weight than I want to?

Hi Gang, I have a question that I hope to get some answers and piece of mind here after... When my husband and I met we fell madly in love, that was four years ago, we got married six mo. to the day of meeting. I then weighed about 197 lbs. My husband has always liked heavier women (yeah!!) Long story, mostly from my antidepressants, severe lower back pain, depo medro epidural injections, lack of exercise due to constant pain etc. Anyway my question is this... I am afraid I will lose too much weight. If I got down to about 160-170 could I maintain there... I got down to 167 about 11yrs ago and felt GREAT! I know if I couldn't stop losing and got down to about 120-130 my husband would be very dissapointed. Granted I am doing this for me but he was attracted to me and loved me at 197 lbs, Even his mom, brothers, x wife, everyone always told me he always liked heavier women like my size (when we met) Now he agrees I need to lose for health reasons but I am afraid I will keep losing until my body says ok no more. Sorry so long of a post, just concerned and naturally want to keep my husband attracted to me as he was when we met, He has mentioned this to me also. Not having the surgery is OUT of the question, I want this more than anything in the world!!!!! And I need it physically too. Thanks for any answers or suggestions any of you may have! Renee. my email is [email protected] if you prefer to email me. "To the world you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :)    — Renee D. PS: I forgot to mention by the reasons I gained weight that I had gained 60 lbs! Do to the antidepressants, lack of exercise etc. So I went from 197 to 260 lbs as of now...

Hi - I am still pre-op but I would definitely pose this question to my Doctor. I would assume that once you hit your desired weight, through guidance of your Doctor, you would slightly increase your food intake and that should keep you at target goal...again, I am only pre-op....some of the post-ops may have different advise. You are soooo fortunate to have a husband that does not make weight an issue....my first husband was HORRIBLE - really destroyed my self-esteem. My new husband is much like yours...and supports this surgery because of health issues!! He does NOT like skinny women!! Good Luck!! Karan

In RNY, the doctor determines how much stomach to staple off, and how much small intestine to by pass. They determine that accoriding to how much weight how have to lose. If you don't want to get down too small, ask them to do a more proximal bypass, and to staple off a smaller portion of the stomach. Depending on your doctor, this may be an option. However, I'd think your husband would love you no matter what, as men like my husband have been there from 125lbs. all the way to 225lbs. with no complaints! Good luck to you.
