Question:
What is the age beginning and ending limitations for this surgery?

My sister, who has successfully had the surgery, is trying to get the surgery for her daughter who is 350lbs and rising at age 19. She is not appealing the rejection by the insurance companies. Is there a problem when performing this surgery on a 19 year old mobid obest person? If so, why? Please send me an answer ASAP, thank you.    — Clennie B. (posted on July 30, 2001)

Hi there! I don't know the specifics but when my surgeon was asked he said he didn't like to do anyone under the age of 18. I am just 23 and it looks like I will be having the surgery. Good luck!

I hope for your niece's sake that someone fights the rejection for her. I was about that weight at 19, then pregnancy happened, I was happy with myself, or told myself I was. My last pregnancy did a number on me and all of those "obesity risk factors" became an "obesity reality" for me. It may not take pregnancy , but any injury or other physical change could take it from one extreme to the other. I'm 24 now and weigh 476 lb and have limited mobility. I was denyed the first time from my insurance and have since filed again. Best wishes for your neice..
