Question:
I'm in AB, Canada, will prov. health care pay a portion for surgery in USA?

I live in Edmonton, my family doctor wants me to have surgery ASAP due to my BMI (67.7) Due to long waiting lists I could be looking anywhere from 2 years to 3 years before I can have surgery (not only in AB, I have also called as far away as Ontario, I would have called Quebec but I don't speak french! )This is unacceptable to me. Does anyone know if Alberta Health Care will cover some or all of the costs if I go to the States, and if they will; how much should I expect them to cover? — Sarah M. Unfortunately the answer is no I did check into this option myself. I do know that if you are able to swing it the cost of the operation is a tax deduction in the equivalent of american. It is so frustrating for us here to even get surgery there is a yahoo group you may want to check out it is mostly for western Canadians here's the link and good luck in your journey. Westcan Ossg
I would also check with AB healthcare just in case you never know with your BMI being alot higher than mine they may.
