Question:
How much can I lift after surgery???

I have 24 month twins, each weighs around 32lbs. I am concerned about when I can pick them up after surgery I am having an open rny and have heard about the terrible things that can happen if you have a hernia.......anyone out there when were you able to hold your children after this surgery    — tina S. I had lap rny and my dr told me no more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. At that point he released me to lift whatever was comfortable for me. I also had a small daughter and you can get away with not lifting your kids by letting them (carefully) crawl into your lap while you are sitting. Forget about high chairs--buy some cheap vinyl tablecloths and let them have picnics for 6 weeks. They'll love it! At that age they can probably also get in the car and carseat with minimal help from you. Get them started now and keep telling them that Mommy's tummy will have a boo-boo. My daughter did just fine at 2 1/2.

I had surgery about 2 months ago. I also have a daycare in my home. My doc said no lifting over 15 pounds for the first 4 weeks. Then it was a gradual increase and by 6 weeks he said I could resume normal activity. I have a 14 month old in my care who weighs about 30 pounds. I just had to find creative ways to do things. Get down on the floor to play with him, change him on the floor, I even took the mat out of the playpen and laid it down on the loor because I could not lift him in and out of hte playpen. It is possible to do, but you just have to be careful. I, so far, do not have a hernia. I am hoping I don't get one, either. I wish you the best of luck and if you have any questions, let me know!
