Question:
How else can I get protein ?

At the time that we can start eating solid foods again, considering the fact that we can only eat so-many ounces of food a day, yet are supposed to get in 60 grms of protein....what other ways are we supposed to obtain protein, is it with shakes or vitamins, or what? I'm asking because, others have said that their doctors required that they not use protein shakes for very long. I'm kinda stumped, I just don't see how you can fit 60 grms of protein in each day when your stomache is so small,...along with the 64 oz of water etc. I really can't see how it could all work. Any suggestions, or examples would be great.    — Jennifer M. (posted on November 14, 2001)

Yes, most doctors, I think, would rather you get your protein "naturally" through eating.....but for some.......that's just not possible. A lot of people use shakes , protein bars, drinks.......I am still pre op but I plan on using Casec Powder. It is a TASTELESS protein powder that you can use on EVERYTHING. Mix it in your drinks, sprinkle it on your food, even add it to the food you are cooking ( like scrambled eggs, meatloaf etc). You can mix it in cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, applesauce, just everything. It has no carbs and virtually no fat. You can only get it by asking your pharmacist to order it for you. A 10oz can is about $10.50. A half cup has 35 gms of protein. I know it sounds like you need alot to get your protein in but because of it being tasteless and being able to mix it with everything, it really isn't that hard at all. Hope this helps.......

Someone mentioned CASEC powder. Another great tasteless powder is UpCal-D, made by Tyler Medical Supplies. I have both CASEC and UpCal-D, and I prefer it by far because 1) it's very, very smooth - no grit whatsoever and 2) it has calcium citrate. You can't beat that! If you call them, they'll send you some free samples. Please tell them Felissa sent ya, ok? The contact person is Sherry Kiss and the phone number is 800-941-4222 ext. 30.
