Check out Dr. Sapala in Jackson, MI. I am not sure why you want lap but no matter what the reason you will want to be FULLY INFORMED PRIOR TO MAKING A DECISION so since you live near Ann Arbor check out the "micropouch", I think it is the GOLD STANDARD in WLS. Just search "Sapala Wood Micropouch". Also have you checked the surgeon section of this website??? Go to Gallery and find the section on doctors. It is awsome because you can read comments made by people who have actually had surgery with the docs. You want to know more than lap vs open. I have bad gastro (Gerd, etc.)problems so this micropouch is the best for me based on my co-morbids. GOOD LUCK. I would e-mail you but you have NO PROFILE.

I have heard that Dr. Kevin Krause in Royal Oak does lap. I dont personally know anyone who has went to him, but I do know that he is listed on the surgeons page of this web site. Check it out. Good Luck

I would be very leery of the Sapala Wood Micropouch. Instead of a pouch the standard size of an egg, they leave you with a pouch the size of a small grape, and that is not the "gold standard" rny. We had a girl in our support group that had a micropouch, looked horrible, wasn't really loosing as much weight as normal RNY patients and was having serious anemia and malnutrition problems. My wife surgeon calls the micropouch a "quackery". I had normal open RNY 9 weeks ago and have lost over 62 lbs. I am from northern Mich, but have heard good things about Dr. Krouse as well. Lap wasn't an option for me because I had BMI of 63 and most surgeons won't do lap for BMI's over 45-50. Good Luck.
