Question:
Im expecting my period to come on the day of surgery.

Should I point this out to the surgeon? Will they want to reschedule?    — Valerie H. (posted on June 2, 2002)

Hi Valerie! Having your period should not be a problem at all. I have been having irregular periods since I had my son over 2 years ago and hadn't had a period since September. The day after surgery I got it. I was told that it is very common to have a period right after surgery even if you aren't even due at that time. As if you don't have enough to deal with and then you end up getting that. LOL. Good luck to you throughout your journey!

I started my period the day before surgery. They gave me some funky mesh underwear & a pad to wear when I got dressed for surgery, but they were gone when I woke up. I had a catheter (sp?) in after surgery & they had a big pad under me in the bed to keep the sheets clean. I had to push fairly hard to get them to take the catheter out early, but as long as I was up & walking around & promised to use the toilet, they took it out & got me underwear & a pad again. One of the first things I asked them to do was clean me up with a wash cloth since I wasn't able to. It was fairly embarassing for me, but I felt MUCH, MUCH better afterwards.

Hello, I have PCOS and had not had a period in almost 2 years until I had surgery and I started about 2 hours before surgery and they let me wear my underware and pad in to the operating room but they pulled the underware down and below the belly. Hope this helps you...

Don't worry about a thing! I got my period the day after surgery. The nurses helped clean me up, used a wash cloth on me, and changed my pads since I couldn't reach them. It was embarassing at the time but it was not a problem. 30 days post op, loss of around 35 pounds! :o)

I recently went off of the pill. I have not gotten my period in a month and a half, and fully anticipate it this Wed. for my surgery. My mom said something about the belt and pad...I just looked at her. Hey, we'll be going retro! LOL
