Question:
Has anyone tried Pro Blend 55 protien powder?

My surgeon recommends this type and I want to know more about it. I checked the Library here but found nothing. I just ordered some (it comes in a 2 lb container) So I HOPE its decent....Jamie    — Jamie M. (posted on April 4, 2003)

I've tried Pro Blend 55 (Swiss chocolate flavor), and it was pretty decent as protein powders go. I think GNC sells it, too. But in case you don't like it, or want to try other powders before you invest in another whole two pound container, I'd recommend ordering samples of different protein powder brands and flavors from vitalady.com or wlssuccess.com. Protein shakes are an individual taste kind of thing, and there are plenty of powders comparable to ProBlend 55 (in terms of nutritional value) that should meet with your surgeon's approval as well. I tried more than a dozen different kinds (most were yucky) before settling on Proscore 100 Chocolate, but ProBlend 55 Swiss Chocolate is my "back up" brand. When you get it, if you don't like it with just water, try using a little bit of jello or pudding powders (sugar free, of course) to add flavoring (maybe chocolate pudding powder to make the chocolate richer), or DaVinci sugar-free syrups to add exotic flavoring. When you start adding skim milk, and fruits and stuff, you add sugars and carbs that you may not want to spend on a protein shake (though sometimes a smoothie is good as a treat). Also, as a fresh post-op, it may be too much to add fruits & milk to your protein shake (that might work better 2/3 months out or more than it would at one month out). Enjoy!

I find ProBlend 55 just wonderful and that is all I drink (three per day). I've tried all four flavors and I've found each of them enjoyable. The Alpine Vanilla is the only vanilla I've tried that I have liked. Do try some samples, though, as suggested below. I buy mine at www.dpsnutrition.com as this is the cheapest I have found, $19.95 per 2-lb container, or $19.49 if you buy four. No connection with this company; just trying to make ends meet on SSDI. Good luck in finding something you like. Nina in Maine

I love Problend 55 mocha cappucino. My other favs are Proscore 100 and ProV60 vanilla. There are several other really good whey proteins, and these are all very bioavalable for us, with very low carbs and sugar. Your doc is just probably not familiar with all the good different brands out there. As someone else suggested, I'd recommend going to www.vitalady.com and ordering samples to taste before investing in a big jug of anything. Good luck.

ProBlend Mocha Cappucino is the best! No caffeine, low carb, no sugar. 27.5 g protein. Mix 1 scoop w/4-5 oz water and 1 ice cube. Blend. It is very good by itself. My gauge for shakes is if I can drink them without adding anything to them (like the sugar free DaVinci syrups or Peanut butter) then they are a keeper since I am pretty low maintenance. Good luck! Got all my samples from vitalady and at 3 weeks this is the one I liked the best. Also Pure Whey Stack Chocolate is good (this morning I mixed a 1/2 scoop of the PB Mocha Capp with my regular dose of the Stack for a different flavor).

My favorite is the mocha...Pro Score is the only brand of protein shakes that I can tolerate...I really like all of the flavors! Good Luck! :-)
