Question:
How much iron can you absorb at one time?

I was told to take more iron, my iron levels are low. I already take 18mg twice a day, and have now added a third of 25mg. I have been taking the 25mg tablet along with my morning pills, but was wondering if anyone knows how much iron you can absorb at one time, or if it matters? I know there are 325mg tabs you take at one time, but that is ferrous sulfate, and wasn't sure if this was different. Thanks ~ Sandy    — Sandy H. (posted on April 25, 2003)

My surgeon just told me 650mg a day! I am not sure either on what amount to take and how much at one time. WE NEED ANSWERS,lol. If I find anything out, I'll let you know. I know that vitalady (michelle curran) will help us! She does suggest to take your iron with vit.c and to take them alone (with no other vitamins) and not with caffiene or dairy, I believe. Hopefully she will see this question. Michelle...anybody...we need advice :-)
