Janet, I am nine months out and last month was diagnosed with an ulcer on my small bowel right outside my pouch. I had been on pepcid until about five months out since surgery then was changed to zantac every day. Didn't stop me from getting an ulcer. I was having a real sharp severe pain in what I thought was my left rib cage and around to my back. Whether or not I was hungry didn't seem to matter. It was there all the time. I had to be scoped then I was put on carafate four times a day and the generic of prilosec. Within a week, most of the pain was gone and I thought it was healed up but this week it has been hurting again just a little though. So, yes, we can take carafate and that is what most of our surgeons recommend. If you don't want to be scoped here is my dosage. 10cc which is two teaspoons four times a day and the prilosec twice a day. Good luck/ Hope you feel better.

I think I have an ulcer too but I too fear the scope. The ulcer pain is MUCH worse than any gallbladder attacks I had before it's removal. Anyway, I'm taking Nexium. It has been a godsend.

Guys, there is nothing to fear about the scope. They start an iv and give you medicine that totally knocks you out. It just takes about 10 minutes and when you wake up, it is over. No pain or anything and they do not stretch your stoma unless it needs to be which mine did because I had not been able to keep anything down for about a month.

I am recovering from an ulcer. Mine almost preforated the stomach because I let it go too long. SEE YOUR DOCTOR!!! The scope is nothing. I usually lose a day because my doc knocks me out good but I need the rest anyway. It does sound like an ulcer you have. If you need any info e-mail me and I can tell you more about my experience. Please do not wait to see your doc you could ruin your whole surgery if it preforates the tummy.

I've been plagued with ulcers since I was 19 (I'm oooold now). Had marginal ulcers for the first 5 yrs, but none since revision (4 yrs ago). But this summer, started in again. I scope FIRST, ask questions later. Get a nice lil nap and the day off and answers. Scope is SO nothing to fear. And the other question, are you transected?
