Does anyone have any updated information on his self pay prices ?

Teesha, When I was trying to figure out which surgeon I'd go for for my surgery (7/2/2002) I ended up emailing, or phoning, or snail mailing almost 100 surgeons. Just about every one had a different price to offer. Oftentimes it had to do with how complex MY case was - I was a horrible surgical risk. I had one surgeon quote me $8,000 and another one quote me $120,000. I ended up choosing Dr. Aniceto Baltasar in Alcoy, Spain because - first and foremost - he had the qualifications to do the surgery that I desperately wanted (BPD/DS) in the time frame that my medical team specified my system could handle (my surgery lasted 80 minutes) and the icing on the cake was that all tolled, the cost was $15,800.00 - surgery, travel - everything. My best advice to you now is to find out which surgery you're 1000% sure you're committed to living with post-operatively, then find the very best surgeon you can who does that procedure, and then figure out the money part. I self-paid for a lap RNY in Dec/02 and it cost about $11K USD in total, including 2 days in hospital ($7,800), anaesthesia ($1,100), and the surgeon's fee ($2,000). (Luckily, my socialized health care plan here in Canada reimbursed me for it all). My surgeon's pretty busy now (Dr. O'Malley in Rochester, NY), though, so his prices may have gone up... he has tons (no pun intended) of Canadian patients keeping him busy and in very high demand.

hi. im going to dr. agguire in ensenada mexico. just 90 mins. from san diego. he charges 9400.00. this includes anethisia dr fee as well. dr aggiure has an apartment for out of area patients to stay at starting at 70.00 a night. check south of the border forum and read post from other patients who have gone to him. i believe he is wonderful.
