Question:
Do they stretch my pouch?

I know I am NOT suppose to drink carbonated drinks, BUT I have drunk some (6 pack) over the last several months. I am 8 months post-op and I also understand the pouch stretches some over time. Does the pouch stretch a little more with each can of diet coke or over a period of time of drinking? I guess what I am asking is how many cans does it take to stretch the pouch? Or is that the unknown?    — Leslie B. (posted on February 8, 2000)

It is an unknown, but, the stomach(pouch) is still elastic. I imagine if you are not doing it on a regular basis you are fine. My doc says, of course, stay away from them, but, admits it is not a one time thing. You have to do it regular. Hope this helps. Jen

There are several opinions out there on this one and most folks on this site will disagree with this one. My surgeon told me that he doesn't believe that carbonated soda stretches the pouch. The area he cuts the pouch from does not really "stretch" over time it becomes more pliable as it heals and so can hold more food. My clinic tells us not to drink soda because they believe it leads to snacking. Remember this is just another opinion, but I doubt you actually stretched you pouch.
