Question:
Has anyone been approved under Bill #212

The new bill went into effect 7/1/00. Provides that insurance company must pay for surgery if criteria is met.Just wondering if anyone in IN has been approved using this tool. I have written exclusion and want to know if this has worked for anyone esle.    — Becky B. (posted on July 21, 2000)

I am in the same situation. Today, I went to the insurance office and asked them about the new law. They were clueless as to what I was talking about. I was told that they would have to do some "investigating" and then would get back to me. That was after alot of whispering in the hallway. Who knows? I will update.

Just talked with the gal that handles the insurance in my surgeon's office. She states that if the ins co is national, they do not have to abide by this new law. But, if they are in IN only, they do have to abide by the law. I hope she knows what she's talking about. Will continue to update. Good Luck!

Well, nothing but bad news. I found out that the new law also states that you have to be able to provide documentation of 18 mos. of a doctor prescibed and doctor supervised weight loss program. My doctor never prescribed anything, so I guess I am hosed.
