Hi Debi, We are practically neighbors!!!!!!! But I can tell you that there are no doctors in Florida who offer the duodenal switch. I had the DS on January 6, 2000 and I went to New York City for the surgery. In ten months I have lost over 150 pounds and all the comorbidities to boot. We have a support group in St. Petersburg that has lots of people from all different doctors and such. E-mail me and I will tell you more. Please be sure to check out the doctors at the University of Florida, too. They do a good job, they transect the stomach in the RNY and most everyone agrees that this method is preferable (that no matter how many staple lines are put in, total separation of the stomach is better.) Also, Dr. Muir and Dr. Hocking (Gainesville) are members of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery asbs.org This is a very important credential and should be a big consideration. Also, if you want more information on the duodenal switch, go to duodenalswitch.com where you will find the best info out there and most accurate and up-to-date also. duodenalswitch.com and asbs.org both have a page where all their members are listed. You can see who is a member of asbs and is committed to bariatric surgery. There is so much to learn and research is the key. Do not feel that a person must stay locally with a particular doctor-there are lots of options out there to explore and not everyone is happy with every doctor!!! Hope to hear from you and meet you, too. There is a common bond to us all and can be so exciting. This site is wonderful. Fran

Hi...nice to meet you. I had the bpd/ds one month ago today, and I have lost 32 pounds...from 212 (I'm only 5'1") to 180. I had several comorbs...also. Anyway, my doctor is great at this...he really stresses aftercare...and, well..I just adore him. His name is Dr. Booth. You can see a picture of him at the www.duodenalswitch.com site and his information is at this site also. He is in Ocean Springs, MS...but the hospital is great also. Take care and best wishes...Terri
