Hi! I have BC/BS PPO of Illinois and it took 3 weeks from consultation to approval. However, it will depend on what policy your employer has (they are all different), so good luck!

I have Empire BC/BS PPO of NY but live and work in NC. I was approved within 24 hours. The office manager of my surgeons office called me the next day after my phone call to the medical management and my jaw dropped to the floor. I knew a lot of people usually wait several agonizing days or weeks for their answer. I would go ahead and start gathering info or seeking approval as soon as possible just in case things start progressing earlier than expected with the surgeons office. Even if you are approved, you are not obligated to go ahead if you for any reason find the surgery is not for you. Good luck, Jan

I have BC/BS of Virginia, even though I live in Indiana. I just gave my doctor's office my card, and recieved an approval letter in the mail from BC/BS within 3 weeks saying that I was approved! I never dreamed it would be this easy.

I have BC Advantage PPO. The surgeon's office submitted all the paper work, then about 30 days later I received a letter from BC stating they needed a detailed list of every diet I had been on. Well, let me tell you, I have 20 years of cancelled checks that I went through. I put all the information into a spreadsheet and faxed it to the insurance company. 48 hours later I was approved!
