Question:
Has anyone had the surgery with one insurance and then had to switch to another?

I had my surgery April 2000, with Pru-Care HMO. They were wonderful. I just recently had to switch becaue pru-care pulled out of NJ, I now have Aetna HMO. What I want to know is if anyone else had to switch their insurance after surgery, and if the new insurance company paid for any other things needed. I.E. Tummy Tuck, Breast lift, any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help. AnnMarie Ward [email protected]    — AnnMarie W. (posted on January 28, 2001)

Yes, I have switched insurance companies so many times in the last few years, it is hard to keep track. I had one insurance company(Cornerstone) back in 1999 when I started looking into WLS, then switched to another insurance (CIGNA) and had to re-apply for WLS. Finally got my surgery on 9-20-99. In 2000, I switched again to another insurance (BCBS), and while on that insurance I had a big incisional hernia (which was a side-effect of my WLS) repaired. Now I have a whole other insurance again (Key Benefits). Although it definitely hasn't been fun switching insurance so many times, it hasn't caused me any trouble getting the benefits I need. I have had the hernia surgery, plus my blood tests which I do every 3 months, and insurance has paid for all of it. As long as you switch directly from one insurance to another, without going un-insured for a long period in between, they will treat you just like any other long-time plan member.
