Question:
Has anyone had a vitamine B1 deficiency after having wls surgery?

I have a B1 deficiency and I tried to take a Bcomplex pill even tried to cut it up and put it in my protein shake. It was awful. Has anyone had this problem and if so what did they do for it?    — Sherry T. (posted on August 6, 2001)

I'm still preop, but my surgeon's office has you come back for monthly follow-ups and they give you a monthly B12 shot that is reportedly not painful. I'd ask your doc if they could give you such a monthly shot, since your absorption is now impaired, only if it could be the entire B complex, not just B12. I'll be he/she will have an answer for you. Good luck!

You're talkig B1? Thiamin? Twin Lab offers a B1 capsule that I think is probably small enough to swallow comfortably. Are you avoiding complex carbs, nuts, seeds, stuff like that? You might want to eat a half piece of a good grain/nut/seed bread with 2 meals a day to help get some natural sources in. It is one of the elemtns we CAN get from food, if we eat those foods. It is better absorbed in a B-complex, but perhaps a B1 taken WITH a B-complex. Twin Lab also offers Stress B, which is a larger capsule, but a cap will dissolve in a few moments in the pouch, not lodge.
