Question:
When does hair loss reverse itself?

I am 5 months post op, and my hair is getting VERY thin. How long until this reverses itself?    — Lilley R. (posted on February 4, 2002)

This happens very frequently, don't freak out! Mine lasted from about 4-7 months after surgery. Be sure to up your protein and writing down what you are eating.. I always felt I was getting in more than enough protein until I actually seen what I had eaten for the day written down!

Hair loss has less to do with the amount of protein you get and more to do with your susceptibility to surgery. Some people do great and others lose almost all their hair. I lost a lot of hair between months 6-9, but it is thicker and more beautiful than ever now, and I'm only 11 months post-op. My secret? Nature's Bounty "Vitamins for the Hair." It stopped my hair loss dead in its tracks.

My hair loss started after my 6 month point and by the start of month 8, I have ZERO hair loss and little 1/2 inch sprouts all over my head. I have hair loss for years from thyroid problems, so this is amazing to me. Finally my thyroid is regulated and I have thick hair. NO VITAMINS STOP HAIR LOSS... sorry previous poster. It was a coincidence that it stopped when you changed vitamins. It is a function of shock from the surgery.

Hi, I started lossing my hair at 2 months post op. I am now 18 mos post op and I still am losing my hair. Its not as bad. But it was coming out by the hand fulls everytime I washed my hair. I had long hair past bra strap. Now with all the lose It a little above my shoulders and in very bad condition. So much so I have to keep in ponytail all the time. Sorry I think its an individual thing, the amount and severity that is. I do not beleive one bit about the amount of protein. Because I have been faithful to my vitamins etc. Ive been told by other post ops it will not usually grow back in the same texture as before it has a whole new characteristic and this appears to be true in my case as well.
