Here's a resource that may be of use: http://www.gr-ds.com/generalinformation/comparison.html It's great to also get in touch with any local WLS support groups. I know that the several that meet in my area have post-ops from maybe even all 6 forms of WLS representative if you lumped them all together. It's very important to make sure you have ALL of the information, and make your decision based on the facts. Blessings, dina

I don't think many people realize that you can choose a "forum" to go to on obesityhelp.com On the homepage, in the upper left hand corner, you can choose Lap Band as your forum to do some research. There is a message board that you can address a question to and moset of the people you reach will have had Lap Band surgery or are at the very least researching it. I didn't realize until recently that there is a main message board, but also one for each individual surgery along with chat rooms etc. I had Lap Band surgery on May 17th, so if there is anything you'd like to ask me, I'd be more than happy to help if I can. just e-mail me at [email protected] Good Luck! I haven't had my Lap Band done yet.... actually I get my surgery on July 16 -- 31 Days. This is a very good option in my opinion for WLS. It is different from Bypass surgery in that there is not the malabsortion aspect... just the reduced food intake at any one time. With this form of surgery Sucess is best achieved with strict adhearance to the no more than 1/2 a cup of food per meal and limited to 3 to 4 meals aday, around 1000 calories. The added bonus of this type of surgery is that the Lap-band has an adjustabilty. You can have the opening of the stoma (upper to lower chambers of the stomach opening) made larger or smaller as needed. This restriction allows more freedom and control. Christy M.
