Question:
Refering PCP in Lansing, Mi. area???

A friend of mine is having problems with her PCP giving her a referal for WLS. She is uninformed and choses to stay that way. My friend needs to know of a PCP that she could change to that is supportive of WLS that she could get a referal from. Hope someone can help!    — livnliter (posted on June 22, 2000)

I wasn't sure how my PCP would respond to WLS so I basically bypassed him all together. I made an appointment with Bariatric Treatment Center (BTC) and went in for an initial consultation (had to pay $85 but insurance wouldn't have covered it anyway even if I wouldn't have gotten a referral from my PCP). I have BCBS PPO and BTC sent me a referral from to have my doctor's office fill out. A disagreeable PCP might not do this though. Luckily for me my PCP didn't have a problem signing the form. Maybe your friend's doc would do that for her. Sometimes if the PCP sees that a patient is well informed and has their mind made up they will relent.

Hi, I would like to tell you about my Dr. She is the most understanding, loveable compassionate Dr. I have ever met in my life. She is a true Jewel. Her name is Dr. Susan J Williams D.O. Her office is in Livonia MI (734) 458-1455. I think this would be well worth the drive. This Dr. has never made me feel bad about myself or made me feel embarrassed to go to her about anything. I've only been with her for about 6 months, but wish I met her a long time ago. She also gives great hugs :) if you have any questions email me. Good luck!!

Dr. Enrique Lopes MD in Okemos made my referral. He was hesitant at first but after presenting him with the information I found on this site and others he agreed to refer me. My open RnY was on January 12th and I am currently down about 85 pounds.
