Question:
Did anyone else having OPEN RNY and then have a noticeable bulge ?

It's Friday afternoon, and before bugging my surgeon on his weekend I thought i'd ask if this is normal. It is about the size of a softball, and it kinda bulges out, right below my breastbone. Is this just normal swelling?    — blank first name B. (posted on June 21, 2002)

Dawn, I had the same problem, and still have it, I've gone to the doctor's and they say that the area is swelling in the attempt to heal, as it's still tender as well. How-ever just to be on the safe side go check with the doctor just to make sure. If in doubt bother your doctor, it's the only way. Good luck and God Bless, Post op 4 weeks, open ryn down #33 pounds

It's not necessarily a hernia although it could be. I have the same bulge, and last week at my 6-week check-up, I asked my doctor about it. He looked at it and said that it's just swelling. He said that it will probably take 6-8 months before that area is completely flat. Are you talking about the top part of the incision? That's where mine is. But it never hurts to talk to your doctor and see what he or she says.
