Question:
I'm 7 months post op RNY 275-88=187lbs

I was wondering if what I'm eating is too much. I can eat a footlong subway sandwich that takes me 1 day to eat with nothing else to eat, its baciclly breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I get the club one thats sopose to be low fat, I put everything on it except mayo. with wheat bread. I do this so I know how much calories I'm consuming in 1 day so about 400 I just started this but i need some feed back from you guys I started to exersise doing water arobics 4 times a week 1 hr each time. My weight loss is still going but I need to know if this sandwich is too much for me! thanks    — jennifer O. (posted on April 29, 2003)

If I understand you correctly this is all you are eating..are you supplementing with any other protein if not I don't think you are getting enough protein. I went to the Subway website and this is the information there. I doubled it all because it is for a six inch sub not 12 so the footlong club that you eat all day there is 640 Calories;12 g fat;92g carbs;48g protein this does not include cheese only lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, olives and pickles. I would also think that you are getting too many carbs. I am still preop so all I know is from what I was told at my inital visit to my surgeon. Which was to limit carbs to less than 30% of my diet and those should be veggies and fruits and the rest should be protein to maximize my weight loss after surgery. Then when I get to goal weight if I continue to lose weight we would start adding in some carbs from other things like bread and pasta.Hope this helps.

I agree with the last poster. It doesn't seem like you're eating too much, just too many carbs.

You're probably not eating too much. Can you take half the bread off, and eat it like an open face sandwich? That will cut down on the carbs a little. It's messy, but I use meat or cheese for the other side of the bread, if that makes any sense. Except for today. I ate a whole peanut butter sandwich for the first time in 5 months, except for the crust. The worrisome thing is, I don't feel full. Hmmm....

If you're grazing it's a bad thing. Painless pouch stretching. However, if you're cutting it into 6 small pieces and making 6 meals, it's not tooooo bad. We were on 6 one oz meals til goal wt, so it seems like a lot to me. If 3 meals, then maybe a 6" into 3 hunks? I'm thinking volume, not calories. A meal is over in about 15 minutes......?

So your eating 12 inches in 3 meals? At 7 months, I could eat about 3 inches in a meal of a subway sub so your doing OK. Do you eat all the bread? It is alot of carbs, perhaps shave the bread a little to reduce carbs...I don't know if this is your diet every day or just once in a while. If every day, I would suggest that you vary it a little and add veggies and fruits (not just the veggies on the sandwich!). Good job on the exercise and the weight loss. Michelle is right, no more than 15 minutes per meal or its considered grazing.
