Question:
What information do I need to take with me to the 1st doctor visit?

I didn't know about information on diets, other doctor files, family history, ect. I want to totally be prepared and have everything they need that day.    — Lindsay G. (posted on August 18, 2003)

Well Lindsay, Usually you attend a support group meeting sponsored by the physican that does the procedure. I think! I went to the New Start program meeting, and was told all about the procedure and had to fill out a form asking questions about my dieting history, they want to know what diet you have been on, how long it lasted and how much you lost and how long before the weight came back and how much you gained after stopping the diet. They want to know EVERY diet that you've tried! They also need your past medical history and family history, what medications you are taking and how often and why. Then when you are accepted by the surgeon, they send all this information to your insurance company, along with a letter from your surgeon. Depending on your insurance, they may want you to see a psycologist, a nutritionist, and anybody else they can think of. It's like "jumping through hoops" honey, but if you want and need the surgery, don't give up. Check out my profile to see the aggrivation I went through, and my situation is not uncommon! God Bless you in beginning your journey. Surgery date 8/25/03
