Question:
Which Hospital in Fresno, CA is best?

I have a choice of Clovis Hospital, St. Agnes or the Fresno Surgery Center. Just wondering if anyone had a preference. Were you treated well, was the hospital modern, clean and well staffed. How was the nursing staff, etc.    — Gail M. (posted on May 2, 2001)

Hi again Gail, I vote for St. Agnes. A dear family friend had a 4-way, emergency by-pass there several years ago. He was given excellent care, actually enjoyed that last several days of his stay. From a personal point of view, Jan, his wife and I were there day and night for most of one week and were given great consideration and accomodation. Fresno Surgery Center has "deluxe accomodations," according to Jan of Valley Surgical, she sent her sis there for surgery. Dr. Felix uses Clovis Community the majority of the time, so his patients on a search could tell you more there. For me...I'm going for St. Agnes. They are so involved with the their own bariatrics program, and my past experience, I figure they will know how to handle bariatric patients. Of course the other two handle many also. Only negatives I hear is toward Fresno Community.

Dear Gail, I'm having my surgery at the Fresno Surgery Center on 05/11/01. Iv'e heard many great things about the Surgery Center. I'm told the staff are extremly friendly and the facility is top notch. I hope this helps.

I had my surgery at St Agnes because it was the only one my insurance would approve. I was rather disappointed with the level of care. They seemed to be seriously understaffed, with only one RN on the unit at a time, assisted by several nurses aides (not LVNs). On the other hand, the folks I know who went to Fresno Surgery Center raved about it -- one described it as being like a 4 star hotel! I do know that they have a higher ratio of nurses to patients than anywhere else in town. Given a choice, I would go to Clovis or St Ag only if my surgeon were concerned about the possible need for post-op critical care.

Gail, Fresno Surgery Center was absolutely the Ritz Carlton of hospitals!!!!!!Staff knows exactly how to care for WLS patients. I can't even go into how great the care and room was, or I would be here all day. Good luck!

My daughter had surgery at University Medical Center and had a terrible experience. The nurses were very rude and she had to wait at least one hour for them to come for help. I know that they are overworked, but that was no excuse for their rudeness. She said she would never go back there again.
