Question:
When you have a breast lift, does it make the cup size smaller? Did insurance pay?

I am 8 months post-op from LAP RNY, still want to lose about 15 more lbs. (I am now 146 and have lost 104 lbs.) I was a 40H, I am now a 36DD going on a D. My boobs are sooo saggy, and I am only 23, I feel gross. Will a lift make them smaller as well? I don't really want that, but I was just wondering if I would go from say a D to a C after it. A C cup isn't bad, and this probably sounds weird, but it's just my boobs have always seem to be my identity. Also, did insurance pay for the lift? And how soon after WLS did you have them done? My back has always hurt me and it's always really red underneath my breasts. Could this help? Thanks!    — Lezlie Y. (posted on February 12, 2003)

I had the lift only. My insurance didn't cover it since the guideline was based on a specific volume of breast tissue removed and I just had skin removed. Pre-op WLS I was a HEFTY DD. Pre-op plastic surgery I wore a D cup. Since the lift I'm a full, perky C and in proportion to the rest of me.

I am a nurse and work in a university setting for the division of plastic surgery for the last 10 years. Mastopexy (breast lift) is occasionally covered by insurance if you experience rashes and redness that causes you discomfort. The actual incisions are significant in that they go around your areola, from the base of the areola to the fold of the breast and about 4 inches along the fold of the breast. The breast is not acually lifted as you might think, the excess skin is removed from the bottom of your breast and the areola is moved up. Athough no breast tissue is removed your breasts will be smaller perhaps a cup size smaller. Most young woman feel the scars are too much and others gladly trade the scars for a more youthful breast. The incision that is made is the same incision used for a breast reduction only no breast tissue is removed. Hope that helps.
