Question:
A matter of Life and Death...How do you get approved with Medicaid in GA?

Would someone need to go to their GP and take it from there? Has anyone in GA been approved with Medicaid, if so what did you have to do? What "hoops" did they make you jump through in order to get approved? A friend of mine needs this surgery in the worst way. He hasn't even got on Medicaid yet but I am worried if he doesn't soon he will die. Any information would help so much...thanks.    — Sabrina Plunkett (posted on January 20, 2004)

I don't know about georgia, but here are some suggestions... Look on the list here doing a search for doctors and find ones in Georgia that accept Medicaid sometimes called medical assistance. I would have your friend book an appointment with them. Sometimes this can take months. Explain the situation. Also having a referral from a GP and having them on board helps. Medicaid requires prior approval usually. This is something that the doctors can write letters to. Mean while make sure some of the other things are in order like writing down weight history, weight loss attempts (dates, names), medical complications due to being obese etc. Also compile the medical records if they are from different providers. You can have them all sent to one GP. Usually some surgeons have follow up done with your GP. Good Luck

I do not have Medicaid, but I do live in GA and I do know of lots of people who have been approved through them. I think it is fairly similar to having an HMO insurance (getting referrals, etc). I don't know what part of GA you are looking for, but in the metro Atlanta area Dr. Redmond (Douglasville) does the surgery and accepts medicaid. I know there are others, but I know of more patients who have been through Dr. Redmond. Christy

I Have Georgia medicaid and they do pay for the surgery. I've found a Dr. in Atlanta Ga Dr. Titus Duncan I'm waiting on the seminar on the 28th then i will have my appt with him i hope medicaid WILL APPROVE.... Kastles692000
