Question:
Has anyone every got a sinus infection 5 days before surgery and still had surgery?

I think I have a sinus infection and I am running a small fever of 99.5.    — [Anonymous] (posted on August 27, 2001)

Well I have'nt but I wanted to mention something that may help you. Oil of Oregano. I have been helped by it and my two older cats get sinus too. It really does help US. ;) It is in liquid form, but I would "recommend" getting it in a soft gel capsul. I don't like the taste of it. With the capsul, you'll still "burp it" but it is tolerable. It seems to work fairly quick which is why I mention it as you surgery is so soon. I think anti biotics would not be good before any surgery??? This should'nt hurt. I don't know if GNC carries it. It is a pain in the butt to find! I got mine at Vitimin World. Good luck with this and your surgery.

I had the same thing about 10 days pre-op. My PCP gave me anti-biotics and it cleared up in a few days. Don't wait for it to get worse - see your Dr. immediately. I did and it didn't interfere with my surgery date. The last poster is correct, there are now fast acting anti-biotics that you only take for five days.

I had a sinus infection the day of my pre-op testing and they sent me right to my PCP for antibiotics. They said it could interfere with my breathing and some anesthesiologists wont treat you until it's cleared up. My doctor gave me some good stuff because it was fine by surgery day.

I had a cold, with fever when I went in. I had been taking antibiotics and it did not knock it. I was coughing up a storm and just knew they would cancel, almost hoped they would because I was afraid of what could happen, and they did not and all went well.
