Question:
Has anyone had a surgery through Neweigh in Houston?

I want to have my revision with Dr. Jayakumar through Neweigh in Houston, TX. Does anyone know which hospital they do their surgeries at? I'm having testing at Bellaire Medical Center. Is this where the surgery is done or is it at Bayou City Medical on Bellaire? Also, if you have any info about this Dr., please respond. Thanks for the help!    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 22, 2001)

I had surgery with Dr. Jayakumar in Houston. I was his first LAP RNY. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the man and his office staff. He is very caring and knowledgable. He only operates at Belaire Medical Center. I was NOT Impressed witht he hospital. However, they were not so bad that I wouldn't have my surgery all over again if I had to. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hi, I had my revision surgery with Dr. Ferrari through NeWeigh. I had my surgery at Bellaire although I understand he also uses Memorial Northwest as well (which is where I had my VBG with Dr. Harberg in 97). I wasn't overly impressed with Bellaire but like the other poster said I would not let it stop me. I had some wonderful nurses in ICU and on the ward but I had one "nurse from hell" in ICU too and the kitchen constantly screwed up and sent us stuff with sugar. They sent up regular jello and when we questioned it (hey, we're fat we KNOW what regular jello vs s/f tastes like) they denied it. We complained as a group and it was addressed by the dietician but we didn't trust them after that. We had one of the hubbies taste everything first after that. From what I understand, the kitchen got reamed for the screw-up and we were assured that it wouldn't happen again. I met Dr. Jay only briefly. He seemed very nice. When I had my surgery both Dr. Jay and Dr. Ferrari assisted each other on all their surgeries so you are getting not just one but two excellent doctors. I found that to be very reassuring. I moved out of state the day after I was released from Bellaire so I haven't been back to Neweigh since my 4 week check up but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. My ex sister-in-law also had RNY through them and has done great. She even managed to get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby boy after losing a significant amount of weight. Good luck and feel free to e-mail me direct with any more questions you might have.

I had RNY open on 1/8/01 (Dr. Ferrari)at Bellaire Hospital. Bellaire is a good hospital. I also had my gall bladder surgery there. I think at any hospital (or any business), you're going to deal with some absolutely fantastic staff and a couple of bad apples that sticks in your memory much longer than the good staff. I would have no problem having another surgery at Bellaire Hospital.
