Question:
I will be looking into getting a breast reduction and tummy tuck this summer/fall.

I am 23 yrs old, and I have lost 95 lbs. so far. Would like to lose about 30 more, and then look into TT and breast reduction. These have always been my problem areas. Anyway, I would like to have these done now so my insurance will cover them. We would like to have kids in a few years, and I'm sure insurance would not cover them post pregnancies. How long after TT do surgeons recommend waiting to get pregnant? One year? Two years? Five? Please give me your insight! Thanks!    — Melissa B. (posted on April 2, 2002)

Actually, plastic surgeons STRONGLY advise AGAINST pregnancy after TT. They urge people who are still considering children to wait until they are finished having them to get TT and Breast surgery.

I had my PS consult last week. I have the same concern as you. I'd like to have children in the future. The surgeon said that ideally, every woman would have a TT after a pregnancy. I explained that I'd like to get pregnant in a year or two. He said that it wasnt a problem but that the skin would stretch out after having the baby. But he said that it would be a normal stretching like any other woman that had a baby. I dont think that 1 year or 2 is unrealistic based upon my conversation with him.

Two or more pregnancies is actually an insurance criteria for approval with the abdominoplasty. My advice to you is to have your children first. Good luck.

I am 24 years old and down 112 lbs, and had a breast reduction 2 weeks ago. I also plan on having more children in the future and discussed it with my plastic surgeon. His suggestions were to go ahead with the breast reduction now, but wait for the tummy tuck until I am done having kids. I don't plan on breast feeding with future pregnancies, so if I didn't develop milk from having the reduction that would not be a problem for me. Good Luck!!
