Question:
CCN--Does anyone have this insurance company?

The new job is offering us two choices for health insurance, both underwritten by CCN (Community Care Network out of San Diego). They claim to be largest PPO network in the US, but I can't find much on them with relation to WLS. I would appreciate any info at all about CCN and bariatric surgery; I know you have to prove "medical necessity" but is that hard to do? Do they have any sort of protocol list that you have to satisfy before being approved? How long between surgeon's request and approval? I would appreciate ANY info you can give me on CCN. Thank you.    — Jill H. (posted on July 17, 2000)

Hi. CCN is my underwriter and they approved me. But it's been 7 months since surgery and they're not fulfilling their obligations and I'm getting mad. They've paid some but not most. So I'll see what happens. I would not have gotten the surgery if I didn't get that approval letter from them. So they are playing chicken and if they don't pay I'll contact my lawyer. That's just the way it goes. So, ya thay approved me but I can't give a definitive answer as to will they pay. Good luck.

I have CCN also...and they denied me. They said that there is an exclusion that they will not cover the surgery. I am in the processing of appealing it. Wish me luck.

I was going to sign up with CCN thru Cal Farm insurance but my insurance agent found a written exclusion that said that "inpatient treatment of eating disorders" is not covered. So, obviously I figured that this applied to WLS and therefore I did not apply.
