Question:
Weird sensation with abdominoplasty...a little help please...

I am 16 months post-op open RNY (-164.5). Last Friday I had abdominoplasty to remove the excess skin. They removed 6 pounds and 19 inches of skin. Lovely... Now, I'm 8 days post-op and the hip to hip incision and "new" belly button don't hurt, but they feel tingly. It's almost like the whole area was "asleep" for a week and now it's waking up. It's a burny, uncomfortable feeling. Is this just my skin and nerve endings coming back to life? I really feel absoulutely fine overall. My drains are only draining about 15 cc a day and I haven't taken a pain pill in four days. Just wanted an opinion on the sensation I am feeling...Thanks    — stacey L. (posted on August 30, 2003)

You answered your own question. It's your nerve endings and skin "re-stitching" themselves. I had the same thing. In fact my incision scar still has that "tingly" feeling and I am almost 2 years out. Scar tissue never completely heals like what you had before, so now, I'll rub my finger over my scar and it feels "different" than if I rub my finger over anyplace else. It's a weird feeling, but common. Have a Sparkling Day! CAE

Is there any pinkness or redness by your incision that has accompanied that burning sensation? If so you need to make sure and see your doctor or surgeon to ensure you don't have an infection brewing.

I will be two monhs post op tummy tuck on the 7th of September...my belly button is the same. It's more normal now, but a few weeks ago it was the same way...uncomfortable and tender...even though it was numb, ya know? Good luck!

I had my hip to hip abdominoplasty 13 months ago. I have the tingling still to this day in certain spots. As the previous poster said, as long as it's not red or infected, it's the nerves reattching themselves.
