Question:
Has anyone considered joining Weight Watchers post-op?

I want to do everything possible after my surgery next month to maximize the amount of weight that I lose and ensure that I'm developing better eating habits at the same time. I know that at the beginning, something like Weight Watchers won't be necessary because I'll hardly be able to eat anything, but once my body adjusts a bit and I am able to eat again I want to do everything I can to be sure that I don't fall into any of my old habits. Also, the "group" aspect of Weight Watchers has always been beneficial to me in the past when I've tried to lose weight. Hey, if nothing else, this is a great way to finally get that Lifetime Member status right :)) <-double chin smiley    — Terry M. (posted on August 20, 2000)

I have heard that Weight Watchers will NOT let you join if you have had WLS surgery. And if you are a member and they find out, they will kick you out.

I called Weight Watchers (since I happen to live near the Home Office in Michigan) and verified that as long as you have 5 pounds to lose, and, because of the surgery, are cleared by your doctor to join, you can attend meetings. Of course you have to pay the fee too. But, I have to say, I think it is a great idea for those who need to learn how to eat a healthy, balanced and sane way. The group support and nutritional education is outstanding. The education about self-esteem and its tie to weight management is great too. So, lets put those rumors to rest. Fondly,

Weight Watchers was always my choice in the past as I feel it is probably the most healthy eating plan available. I too have considered staying with them since my WLS was only a tool to help me lose, combined with sensible eating--at least that is what I was told. (And I think I subconciously follow their plan) I would find it hard to believe that they would refuse a member..regardless. What I would think is that you would not be counted when they do weigh you-for example-not recieve the 10 bl bookmarks etc., lifetime keys etc. This because you would have an unfair advantage over others who are losing the regular way, without WLS. If you showed major losses and they didn't, it could jeopardize their losses (pyschologically) Why not just go and ask. I am going to ask myself--Good Luck
