Question:
Does anyone know how to get rid of the aftertaste of sugarfree jell-o?

I haven't had my surgery yet it will be in 30 days, but the taste of sugar free jell-o is not for me,it leaves such an after taste in my mouth and since I will be on soft foods for a while that is one I could eat ,but there has to be a way to alter the taste anyone have an idea?    — Jennie D. I also hate suger-free jello. I ate it one time in the hospital and never touched it again. There are several other items you will be allowed the fist 2 weeks post-op and if you are like me, and many of my friends who have had WLS, you won't really fell like eating anyway. It was hard enough just to get down the Carnation Instant Breakfast I had to drink each day. I did find that suger free, fat free instant pudding is pretty tasty.

The more you eat it , the more you get used to it. Do you drink diet soda? Takes a while to get used to if not been having it regularly, but keep trying and switch ALL stuff over now so that it will be easier to make your transition. ie: sweet/low or splenda with coffee. Crystallight is good and sugar free Kool-ade(sp) is good too, Good luck.

Apple juice......make your jello with one cup of boiling water and one cup of cold apple juice,(if you can tollerate the apple juice). That's how I made it, and it tastes wonderful. No after taste or anything. Good Luck.

Instead of the cold water, I substitute Fresca. It gives it more flavor and an interesteing texture. As it is solidified, you don't have to worry about the carbonation. You can experiment with any diet soda.

I know this is gonna sound pitiful, but I have never made jello. But, I think you have to add sugar to the regular kind right? So if that is the case, buy the regular kind, and sweeten it with splenda instead of sugar. It tastes much better than aspartame in the sugarfree jello.

Pre-op, I could not stand the thought of sugar free items, but after that first week post-op ,living on nothing but ice chips, water, broth and sugar free jello...the slighest hint of sweetener is like heaven to me! You'll be suprised how your body and taste buds adapt...the main thing is stop worrying about it now.
