I can not brag enough about Dr. Felipe Cantu! He is the very BEST! About 7-8 of my family members have had WLS with Dr. Cantu without complications and with great results at weight loss.
Dr. Henry Mansur is also very attentive and experienced GI Dr. The anesthesiologist, the rounding doctors, nurses. Everybody did a wonderful job and made this surgery experience a joyful ride.

I can not stress (enough) the importance of the monthly followups with Nuria Peña, Dr. Cantu's nutritionist. She is wonderful!!! Always willing to help, giving patients great nutritional advice, but above all, MOTIVATIONAL advice! She is one of the main reasons why at 33 months post-op I still go every month to Dr. Cantu's office to get my monthly motivational dose, that keeps me grounded!!!!!!

I had the Gastric Plication done when I was 20 years old on April 25th 2011 and I have lost 80 lbs with diet and exercise! Dont expect the weight to fall off on its own you ant be fat and lazy and expect everythig given to you!!! Its not a miracle surgery!! Its to assist you in your choice of bettering your own life!! My Doctors were Felipe J Cantu and Henry Mansur, very professional and very modern hospital I had the best experience I could ask for and all at a very reasonable price, this procedure has changed my life and I am so happy that I was able to progress and completely change my life, I am so happy!!! If you are thinking about getting a weightloss surgery you should research the best doctor for you and do it!

The first impression of my Dr. was very impressive. I had my doubts about having my surgery in a foreign country, especially Mexico, so when I saw he and his team treated me with the utmost courtesy... I was happy. I also met the anesthesiologist. He was the kindest ever. They saw my anxiety and nervousness, but they quickly put me at ease. My impression of the head Dr. has changed because I rarely see him. I see one of the Dr.s that operated me with him, Dr. Magaly Hernandez. She has been with me throughout my progress. The nutritionist assigned to my case has also been with me through the entire thing. She is fluent in English and offers the best realistic advice. She practices "tough love" and that's what I like about them. They'll tell you the truth of your situation, without sugar coating it. They've been the most helpful. The office staff is cordial and attentive. As they should be. Future patients of Dr. Cantu should know that he has the reputation of being the best in the area. An uncle is a doctor in the area (family practice), and he knows of his prestigious reputation. Dr. Cantu only briefly discussed after care with me; however, Dr. Hernandez (the physician who's been with me through it all) has really emphasized the importance of a lifestyle change after surgery. I've met with her four times since the surgery. She stressed my needs and explains why the procedures are in place. I like how she takes the time to focus on my questions and fully explain what I need to know and why I need to know it. The aftercare program with Dr. Cantu is well structured. I would rate Dr. Cantu and Dr. Hernandez as the best people I could've gone to for this surgery. They made me feel in safe hands from the first appointment pre-surgery. He hospital stay was phenomenal! I seriously asked the nurse if I was the only patient there. I felt as if they were waiting on me every little second. I felt truly cared for and treated with the best comfort. They also treated me with excellent bedside manner. I truly would recommend anyone to the hospital (Christus Muguerza). It's conveniently located next to Dr. Cantu's offices.

I had my wls in 11/09 it was a great exp. no difficulties, hosp was first rate they took excellent care of me, Dr.Cantu is a very caring person who answers all your questions And truly cares for his patients, he will be following my wt lose progress for 2 yrs I can contact his office whenever i have a concern he answers asap, his dietician N.Pena also contacts me to answer my question on food,diet snacks. Highly recommend to anyone considering wls.

Dr. Cantu and Dr. Mansur are very well educated and experienced. They truly love their profession and when asked, they said the most rewarding part of their career is to see the transformation of their patients and giving them the ability to live healthier, happier lives. The first meeting with them involves a discussion of obesity, the health related illnesses associated with it, a description of the many weight loss procedures, and is concluded with a personal recommendation that best suits the patient based on their eating habits and weight loss goal. They were very thorough in their discussion and answered all of my questions to ease concerns. Not only did they do a remarkable job on my surgery with minimal scarring and zero complications, they encouraged my weight loss and give me sound advice during my monthly check-ups. Their staff are friendly and helpful as well and do all they can to make you feel comfortable. I could not be happier with my decision to undergo surgery with Dr. Cantu and Dr. Mansur and highly recommend them to anyone considering weight loss surgery.

Staff and Doctor's were excellent. I chose this Doctor for Distance and was recommended by an aunt of mine who's a ob/gyn in Mexico. All the nurses at the hospital were well mannered and patient. I would definitly go back if needed, for (plastic) surgery. hopefully soon.

Dr. Cantu was wonderful, as was his partner Dr. Mansur. They took such wonderful care of me. No question went unanswered, my every need attended to. They made me feel as if I was a top priorty to them. Their office staff is also top notch. Their nutritionist, Nuria, gave me a personal profile of my nutrition care for the next several months.rnI give these professionals the highest rating, and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone considering WLS.

I was referred to Dr. Cantu by a friend. She told me that he was very kind and excellent in his field. When I first met Dr. Cantu I was very impressed with his knowledge regarding wls. I immediately felt comfortable and knew that if I were to have the surgery it would be with him. He explained the different types of surgeries that he performs and the pre-op and post-op procedures. His staff is very supportive. I highly recommend Dr. Cantu and his staff.

My first impression of Dr. Cantu was VERY welcoming. He was a VERY kind man. His staff was very friendly and helpful. I have NOTHING bad to say about my stay at his hospital or having the procedure done in Mexico..EVERYTHING was so clean and new and EVERYONE made me feel welcomed and comfortable.

This review is based on my own experience. I make no statement regarding what other people may experience. As our company has an exclusion against WLS and we live in Texas we decided to look at Mexican border towns for LapBand surgery. We found Dr. Cantu on the Obesity Help web site. Dr. Felipe Cantu and his partner Dr. Mansur were great. We had excellent experiences. My Lap-Band surgery was 2 weeks ago in Reynosa Mexico. I met them initially in October 2006 for pre-surgery interview. They were professional modern Doctors keeping all records electronically. They took their time, answered all my questions. Afterward we scheduled surgery for December 19, 2006. I went to their office on the December 18th, had Blood work and met with their on-staff Psycologist. Everything was done for my benefit and comfort. Did I mention I don't speak a word of Spanish. No problem with Drs. Cantu and Mansur, they are both polished, well Educated and speak perfect English. The office staff April and Aracaly were also very kind and answered all our questions on email which was usually answered within 1 or 2 days. Lap-Band surgery was performed in the Regional Del Rio Hospital in Reynosa. The hospital was small and functional. However, warning the Nurses and Administration at the Hospital do not speak Spanish. I would s trongly encourage you to have a Spanish speaking friend on day of surgery. When we first arrived at the Hospital on day of Surgery at 6am; they did not have anyone speaking English at the front desk and we really had to work at being understood. Both Doctors attended my surgery as well as a English speaking Anestialogist. I had no problem renting a car and driving between the McAllen airport and the Dr. office and Hospital in Reynosa. However, the crossing from Reynosa back to McAllen can take an hour or longer. The Dr. office arranged a hotel at a very nice Holiday Inn in Reynosa where we stayed night before surgery and the night after. Only 2 blocks from the Hospital. Both Dr. treated us very well and very kind. Today is 2 weeks post-op and I am back to all my activities as usual. We are very thankful to Drs Cantu and Mansur and give them our highest rating. We are scheduled to return in February for our first fill.
