I met Dr. Hornbostel at a mandatory seminar the first part of December, 2003. The little time I got to visit with him, I liked him. I had my consultation with him this week and liked him very much. He explained the procedure and the pre and post op expectations and instructions. He talked with my husband and I and made us feel good about the surgery. His staff was very helpful. He was very informative with any questions I had for him and explained his aftercare program well.

Dr. Phil is the best surgeon in MO. My opinion has not changed. The office staff is great and very helpful. Dr. is so busy it is hard to ever have appointment on time. He has a good bedside manner. He explained all the risks of the surgery. I rate Dr. Hornbostel a 10, he is an excellent surgeon with good bedside manners.

My first impression of Dr. Hornbostel was that he was knowledgiable but down to earth doctor. He was sure he could help me lose the weight I wanted to lose. His staff was very nice and helpful.

The first time I met Dr. Hornbostel, I leaned over and whispered to by boyfriend, "I like him already." I was very impressed with his speaking skills and his overall attitude towards overweight and morbidly obese people. My impression of him only got better with time. His knowledge of the surgeries and recovering from them was enormous. At his mandatory informational meeting (every 1st Tues. of the month at Bothwell Regional Hospital, if I remember correctly), everything he said was very understandable and interesting.

His office staff is very helpful and kind except for one member who had very poor manners over the phone. But that one woman did not ruin my overall experience with his staff, and maybe, she just was having a few bad days.

There really is nothing that I dislike about Dr. Hornbostel. He's encouraging, thoughtful, intelligent, experienced in his field, and very punctual.

His aftercare is extended as the following: one week after surgery, 4 wks. after surgery, then I think, 2-3 mos. later, 6 mos, 1 yr.later, and then yearly after that, possibly, at least for yr. #2. At my 1st visit, he was very kind and said that I looked great. He was the first to notice any weight loss so I was very excited to hear that.

As far as his addressing the risks of surgery, he did an excellent job. The informational meeting was very useful. He told us about the possibilities of leaks and blood clots and how he and the hosptial staff would prevent and deal with them. Also, at the first individual office visit to meet with him, he described the entire surgery process over again and added more details.

I am very happy I found Dr. Hornbostel through ObesityHelp.com. He's the best doctor I've ever had. His competence exceeds my expectations, and his bedside manner is tender and just right. Thanks again, OH.com and Dr. Hornbostel!!!!

Dr. Hornbostel is wonderfull I would recommend him to everyone looking to have this surgery. He is very careing about his patients. Some people have complained about some of his staff but to this day I couldn't tell you who in his office does not approve of this surgery because everyone has treated me very well there. I really don't have any complaints about him or his staff. He has a very good aftercare program and also attends our monthly support group meetings. He requires each patient to attend a siminar he holds the first Wed of the month where he describes the surgery and the risks and has a question and answer session. At this point I have no complaints at all about my doctor or my care after surgery.

I met Dr. Hornbostel in Aug. at his seminar. I had looked at surgeons in KC but several of my friends knew dr. Hornbostel and raved on him. Granted none had used him for this type of operation. He was great when we met one-on-one in September. He answered questions straight forward and included my spouse in everything. His office staff has been great with dealing with all of my questions. I just wish that I had a little more office visits wit hhim pre-op, but his staff is only a phone call away.

I saw Dr. Hornbostel for the first time at one of his pre-op seminars. He seemed so down to earth and friendly, but when he started speaking about the procedure, you could tell, that he knew what he was doing. I only saw him one more time before I had surgery. I saw him at his office. He explained the surgery again, and was very polite and knowledgeable. I then saw him after surgery while I was still in the hospital. He is a man of few words though, when talking face-to-face, have questions ready for him. His office staff was efficient, but not overly friendly. All in all, Dr. Hornbostel is an excellent surgeon, and a nice man. I would rate him a 10 out of 10. The only thing, that was kind of confusing, was how to eat after surgery. I was given 3 different papers to follow, all of which were different. I finally followed the paperwork from the dietician. I am going to ask Dr. Hornbostel about this at my first post-op appointment.

I met Dr. Hornbostel at his seminar in June. He seems to be a very nice man and was very helpful in answering all of my questions. I had my consultation in July and he took the time to explain everything--he did not in any way seem to be in a big hurry-very patient. I really like him and I know I have chosen the right doctor. My 1st impression of his staff was not a good one. Most of them seem to be "too busy" to help and do not really act like they "enjoy" their job. Kim has been great and a BIG help--very patient and very nice. Overall I think Dr. Hornbostel is great and I can handle his staff!! I'm sure once I am approved and have the surgery they will lighten up!!

I had my first consult with Doctor Hornbostel and was very impressed and comfortable with him. When I attended his educational seminar I felt that I had found the surgeon for me and after meeting and speaking with him I know that I have. He was reassuring and answered every question that I asked. He has a very structured program and stresses aftercare. He also went through risks and we spoke of different complications. He sugarcoats nothing. He is very upfront about the risks, and your commitment to make this work. I would rate him a nine and hope to say a ten after surgery. Of course surgical competence is the most important. However, bedside manner makes us feel better emotionally. Therefore they both are great.

Well I had my consult yesterday. It was simple and quick. The staff was ok, except for one nurse. But she's not performing my surgery so I won't let myself worry about her. Dr. H explained how my life would change and what I would need to do and what not to do. I now will wait for the office to send my info into the ins. company.
