My first impression of Weight Loss Surgery of Riverton was that the office was flighty. I had to "track them down" several months into the process because I had not heard anything. I found out this is because Dr. Lewis is in the process of moving to another state, although he plans on keeping the Riverton program going.

My first appointment with the Riverton office and not my primary care provider (I live over 4 hours away) was on January 3. It was a whirlwind day of appointments - I had blood drawn, an EKG, met with a psychiatrist, met with a physical therapist, met with a dietician, and then talked with the program coordinator. I was impressed with the level of professionalism and compassion that everyone I met with had. It was clear that they wanted me to be successful and everything was geared for me to be able to achieve success.

I met with the Riverton office again on January 27. At that time I had more blood drawn, met with an internal medicine specialist, and then met Dr. Lewis. I did a lot of research prior to surgery and had tons of nontraditional questions and he took his time to answer every single one. He was amazingly patient - the meeting took well over an hour. At that time I also went over paperwork that talked about all of the risks in detail and signed over and over that I was aware that there could be complications up to and including death. He also made sure that I understood that a sleeve gastrectomy is a tool and not a magical cure.

My presurgery diet was the Atkins induction diet. I had to eat high protein, low carb foods for 2 weeks. The day before surgery I was allowed a sensible breakfast and then limited to clear liquids until midnight, at which time I could no longer have anything by mouth until post-surgery.

My biggest complaints in the hospital were that the nursing staff did not notify my husband as they had promised and he did not know I was out of surgery until I called him. That caused him a lot of additional stress and I hope that they have better communication in place for future patients. The other issue that arose was the dietary department did not understand that I was being given everything I could drink by the nursing staff and that providing trays was stressful - getting everything I needed was challenging enough and until the doctor became aware I thought I was failing to meet the standards I needed to meet so that I could be discharged to home.

Riverton Memorial Hospital and Dr.Lewis were very professional and caring. I felt like they cared about me and my success rather than about how many surgeries they could process in a given time period. I'm a little over three weeks post-surgery and have no regrets with having had it or having had it done by Dr. Lewis.

I just want to express my sincere thanks to Dr. Dennis M. Lewis and the hospital staff at the Riverton Wyoming Hospital. I had surgery on Oct.25th 2012. They were all so good to me and very compassionate of my needs. I highly recommend Dr. Lewis and his staff. I absolutely would choose him again with no regrets. I am truly grateful to have had such an awesome surgeon and a wonderful hospital.

I have to say that Dr. Lewis is one of the most caring doctors that I have been to. I had my RNY
and I had gall bladder surgery about 3 months after the RNY, Dr. Lewis did both surgeries and did a great job. I would reccommend him to anyone having this surgery.

When I found out that Dr. Lewis was the surgeon in our town who performed the weight loss surgeries, that sealed the deal for me. I wouldn't trust anyone else to do this surgery. He has done other general surgeries on other family members, and they all feel the same way I do. He has the most awesome bedside manner, and a great sense of humor. I love his nurse but a few of the other fill-in nurses could have a better attitude toward overweight people. His office is very quick to respond to calls and questions, and Dr. Lewis explains things in such a way that they are very easy to understand. Prior to surgery, he went through a very thick packet of information with me, page by page, to make sure I understood all of the possible risks and complications. The Weight Loss Center of Wyoming here in Riverton is partnered with him, and they have the most amazing, supportive program. I am very impressed and would reccommend it to anyone who is thinking about weight loss surgery.

Dr. Lewis sat with me in my appointment until I had answers to all my questions, and 45 min. past the office closing time. He, so far, has been great.

Very relaxed guy, but very serious when it comes to his surgeries, he wants to help and is committed to his patience 100% even after surgery! Aftercare is so important to him and he will definitely tell it like it is! He is a very compassionate person and he listens to his patients! When he says he and his staff are there for you, THEY ARE! I realize there is no Doctor who is perfect, and at times I felt I could have had more questions answered, but he is an A-1 surgeon and my LapRNY was not an easy one! He and his staff are thorough from the moment you call his office! He works well with Donna Post, who heads up Wyoming Weight Loss Surgery, they are an excellent team. I've been post op 18 months and we are a family! They are my family and I will always be in contact with them forever! He saved my life and for that I will always be there to share my experience and encouragement to his patients and others going through this process. He and Donna have been on the radio with me to share with others information about gastric bypass, and currently are assisting me in setting up a support group in Cody Wyoming. Call him, talk to him, he will call you back personally. rnrnOn a side note, he paid his way through medical school by entertaining as a clown. Just get out of the way when he starts juggling! HA! Just kidding Doc!
