    Dr. Abe Fridman is the newest member of Fairfield County Bariatrics & Surgical Specialists, P.C.. Dr. Fridman specializes in bariatric and general surgery. He also has been trained in Laparoscopic Foregut and surgery for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Dr. Fridman comes to Fairfield County Bariatrics & Surgical Specialists, P.C. from New York City. He began his education at Cornell University and from there completed his medical studies at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Northshore/LIJ in New Hyde Park, New York. Dr. Fridman became a resident at SUNY Downstate in the General Surgery Program and finished the residency at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. During his tenure at Lutheran Medical he was awarded the Sampath Kumar Award, given to the top surgical resident in the program. Dr. Fridman completed his fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida in June of 2012. He had the privilege of studying under Dr. Raul Rosenthal, a renowned Bariatric and General Surgeon, who is the Editor of the Bariatric Times, a nationally published medical journal. Dr. Fridman contributed to the studies and submitted articles for publication in the Bariatric Times. He also was selected to give an abstract presentation at the annual American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons this year held in San Diego, California. During his fellowship, Dr. Fridman worked within the bariatric program and has participated in the care and surgical treatment of over a hundred cases including laparoscopic banding, gastric sleeve and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures as well as revisional bariatric surgery. He followed patients from seminar to postoperative care and has become a strong addition to our team. In addition to the laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures, Dr. Fridman is trained to perform laparoscopic fundoplications for the treatment of severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hiatal hernia repairs for general surgical patients. Dr. Fridman is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association and SAGES. He has participated in video presentations for both the ACS and SAGES. He has had articles published in the Bariatric Times and also contributed a book chapter to a textbook of bariatric surgery to be published by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. Dr. Fridman holds privileges at Norwalk Hospital, in Norwalk, Connecticut; St. Vincent’s Medical Center, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Griffin Hospital in Derby CT. He is fluent in Russian, which is beneficial for our community and allows him to care for a greater population of patients.  Dr. Fridman created weight loss history as the first surgeon in Connecticut to perform the Orbera® Gastric Balloon non-surgical weight loss procedure.
