I had my procedure done in January of 2009. I was just over 300 lbs. This man and his team saved my life, or gave me a new one. I went from a size 26 with high blood pressure (150/110 on medication), to a size 8 and no health issues whatsoever. I truly wish that I had done this sooner.
If you choose to use Dr. Aguirre and his team, know a little Spanish ;-).
Of course everyone feels a little nervous travelling outside of their country to have a procedure of this magnitude. My experience left me feeling that there was no better decision that I could have possibly made. This team was the best of the best and extremely professional. I'm gonna try to figure out how to post a before/ after photo. Feel free to email me for details if you'd like (I know how to use that pretty well)

Over a year out and I'm so happy and glad I had this surgery. I even recently got an email from Dr. Aguirre asking for an update. It was nice to know he cares and keeps in touch. I could not recommend this doctor high enough and I recommend him to everyone i speak to about my weightless (even though many people give me concerned looks when I state I had my surgery in Mexico. I'm very happy to correct their assumptions that I was in some shack with a mad surgeon with rusty saws :).

Dr Aguirre is WONDERFUL!!! I found him by coming to this site and searchign through the doctors and reading all of their reviews. He had by far the most and the most wonderful reviews of them all. So, I selected him for our (my husband and my) surgeries. I wanted to be able to write such glowing reviews about our surgeon and I'm glad to report I can!

Dr Aguirre is wonderful, his staff is so professional, the hospital is clean and very modern, the care was beyond excellent... I cannot compliment them enough. If you're considering this Dr. then stop now and make your appointment. This is the Dr. you want!

As of Yesterday May 20th,2011, I am 8 Years out yippie me :). I had my surgery with Dr. Aguirre in 2003, one of his first known here on obesity help, thanks to the late Latrisha she made it all possible for me to go to Mexico. I have been able to keep the weight off, thanks to preventive medicine doctor's here I see him every 2 months. This has been one heck of a journey, you only learn by traveling through it. It is not easy, a lot of people think it is the easy way out or the magic surgery (let me tell you, it is not) it is a lot of hard work. Would i do it again, it a heart beats. I guess not to be "fat" would be one, which for most of us we are there before we realize we have a big health problem on our hands. Once you have gastric bypass, you then need lots of plastic surgery and are left with ugly scars. So you never are at peace with your body and if you cannot have plastic surgery you have gross hanging skin. There is no easy way, once you become "fat". So having surgery is the best alternative, and to stay active. I have met too many people who put all the weight they lost right back on, that is so sad that will never be me. I have spent way too much time and money on this new body. As far as my personality, i was so much happier when i was a fat girl. But I do know now im so much healthier, and that I did make the right choice by having Gastric Bypass, Thank you Dr. Aguirre and to the Heavens above to Latrisha, and to Grace Smith to whom I still keep in contact with!!!!! To All of you waiting to have surgery, do not give up in the end it is all worth it!!!! God Bless You All :)

I am a Proud Patient of Dr, Aguirre, I had my First surgery with Dr, Aguirre on June 30, 2004. I lost a total of 270lbs. I had 2 babies after having surgery and now I'm going back to visit Dr. Aguirre because I can't seem to take off the last 100lbs I need to lose. I have kept all but 50lbs (baby weight) off since I had my surgery,. But Dr. Aguirre is the same. I contacted 3 doctors here in the states asking what I could do to kickstart my metabolism and no one would see me because I went out of the country. So my husband and I decided to go back to Dr, Aguirre and have him help me. He'll be doing some revisional work, because the Orthopedist has decided I need to weigh 150-180lbs...I've NEVER since at least grade school weighed that much. I was very comfortable where I am, but my knees and feet can't take the pressure. So I'll probably look like a crack head being that skinny and I'm 6'3,but I have to have both of my knees replaced and my foot back together. So this is the only way. I'm very excited to go back and see my second family there! I LOVEEEEEEE Dr. Aguirre, he didn't make me feel horrible for not losing down to the 150lbs. When I started my journey I was well over 500lbs. I owe the life I have now to him. Good luck on whatever journey you decide to take, but I'm proud to say that I'm one of Dr, Aguirre's patients.

So far I have only emailed back and forth with Dr. Aguirre and his assistant Rosella and they are both great. Rosella is great about telling you about the town and about where you could stay. I'm hoping to go to Mexico for surgery sometime in June, so I can meet everyone at CardioMed. I'll keep everyone informed of my surgery date.

6/29/04 Oh my god I LOVEEEEEEE Dr. Aguirre. He is funny, but he also tells you like it is. I like that. I was very impressed by him. He made me feel very comfortable. I just love Rosella too. She is soooo busy, but she took the time to call a tow truck for us when our car broke down and she made appointments for Carlos and Bambi. I had my blood taken and the lady was awesome. I asked if I could take her home with me, because they can NEVER get your blood. I am Anxious for surgery in the morning, and my nerves are going crazy, but I don´t feel I could have gone anywhere else that they would have taken care of me as well as everyone here has. I love this place!!

My first impression of Dr. Alejandro Aguirre was that he's a soft spoken person and easy to speak to on the phone. In person, he's very nice looking and attractive. He was professional and down to earth. I went through Joyce Meyers at Beliteweight.com and she was very professional and sent me all the information I needed. The Dr. is a very active person, he golfs, tends to his farm/vineyard and goes surfing, yes surfing! Dr. Aguirre stresses that this is NOT a MAGIC FIX. You control whether your operation will be successful with how you treat your body and change your eating habits. Breathing excersizes before and after surgery are a MUST! Very Serious! Since he is in Mexico, we need to followup with our doctor at home and do research regarding aftercare. He explained that no matter what, he can not guarantee that there will be no problems during surgery or after. However, he has practiced for 20 years and through my experience, he's very good. I rate him 10 out of 10. He has great surgical competence and bedside manner. If I had to choose, I'd so surgical competence but bedside manner is a plus!!! I have nothing negative to say.

My first impression of Dr. Aguirre was pure comfort. From the moment we met I was at ease. The staff all worked with me very well and even though I hardly know any spanish they never seemed frustrated with me, it was like they understood exactly what I was saying...Dr Aguirre and the 2 other doctors have been to see me everyday. I would give him a 10 every time. My incision was sticted with such a delicate hand, I can imagine the scar will be hardly noticable once I'm healed. Dr. Aguirre promised me this one thing, that he can not promise that I wouldn't have issues with my surgery but he did promise he would take care of me, and he did just that..He expressed the importance of sticking to the diet in order to be successful. I would do this over again a million time.

I had done research and read hundreds of opinions before deciding to go out of country. My insurance would cover nothing and I did not want to wait a year to jump through hoops and possibly still be unsuccessful because I didn't meet the 100 pound requirement. I made decisions for my doctor based on other people's opinions. Now that the surgery is over, I am happy to state that I was/am very happy with Dr Aguirre. He answered questions promptly and continues to respond quickly to emails. I was very comfortable at Cardiomed and had little trouble with the language. No trouble with Dr A's communication or bedside manner. His aftercare instructions are short and simple as were his pre-op directions. This could lead to a feeling of heading into the unknown with no one to hold your hand. I'd always opt for surgical competence, and that is what I got from Dr Aguirre. I'm 3.5 weeks out and am doing fine. My only issue was with one nurse who didn't even try to communicate with me. Everyone else had some English or could pantomime what was needed.

He was very nice and friendly. Answered my questions and was very descriptive on the surgery itself. I never met any of the office staff. Great bedside manner. Would recommend to all who inquired.

My surgeon was the most caring and it's obvious how he takes this surgery serious. He even allowed my husband to watch my surgery and explain everything he was doing. I have the most respect for him, as a surgeon and as a human being.
