I would recommend Dr. Boynton to anyone in the South New Jersey area desiring top quality results without complications and a healthy successful journey thereafter. I have not had a single complication and am close to achieving my weightloss goal now and look forward to a happier, healthier life full of opportunities that were once closed off to me as an obese individual. Much thanks and appreciation to the man that made this new life possible:):)

I've met with Dr. Boynton once already and meet with him tomorrow to set my surgery date. He is by far one of the most informative and honest doctors that I've ever met. He didn't hesitate to answer my questions-I had a list-and even took the time to draw a diagram of the pouch and what I could expect. He was very considerate that I had concerns and he was patient and answered all of my questions and reassured me that I was a good candidate, especially since I had already attended the New Beginnings program that he requires for his patients. (I was originally going to be a patient of Dr. Goldstein for the Lapband procedure but after going thru the entire mandatory pre-op processes that he has all his patients do, I had second thoughts about whether or not this procedure was right for my particular lifestyle, expectations, etc. In the end, despite his awesomeness, I chose to leave Dr. Goldstein and in exchange, transferred to an even more amazing surgeon for a different procedure, The Roux En Y with Dr. Boynton) He made me feel at ease and I left his office feeling confident, prepared and genuinely excited for my new life to begin! Unfortunately, there was some serious snags and confusion in the administrative side of his offices with obtaining all of my 100%-completed-and-ready-to-go insurance documents from all of the specialists, testing facilities, doctors offices, etc to their office, so I had to create my own portable medical file and on several occassions refax documents to their coordinator for the insurance approval to even be submitted. I was disappointed on the administrative side of the offices and had to stay in constant communication with their insurance paperwork coordinating team but Dr. Boynton is worth all of the hassle. In the end, after dozens of phonecalls and refaxes, my file was finally submitted to the insurance company for approval and without hesitation it came back in an amazing 3 days that I was approved! Yay! So tomorrow I go to visit with Dr. Boynton and set up a date for surgery.

My experience with Dr. Boynton was positive throughout. As others have stated, he requires all of his patients to participate in the New Beginnings program. It is very comprehensive and includes support groups, nutrition classes and exceptional staff. Every person I met was competentand friendly. My surgery was 1/5/10 and I was in the hospital for 3 days. Other than some discomfort with one of the incisions, I've had no complications at all and feel great. I've seen Dr. Boynton twice and will see him again in early May. He has addressed all of my questions and was very forthcoming with the pre-surgery requirements, risks and follow up care. I highly recommend him.

Today is Wednesday, March 19, 2008. I met with Dr. Boynton today!! Yes! My first impression of him was professional, confident, knowledgeable, and caring. He’s just what I hope to find in a surgeon. He didn’t appear to be very chatty, but very through in his questions and profession. He took the time to explain the procedure and drew a diagram of the actual pouch. I like that as I am visual when it comes to learning. He seems quite, but would give a smile under that stoic tall stature. He discussed the New Beginnings program that he requires all of his patients. The program is costly, but does entail a great pre and post program, that has a nutrition class, support groups, weigh-ins, dietitian, behavior therapist and a fitness program. The program sounds really good for supporting such a major decision. His staff was nice and I didn't have a long wait. rn

First Impression: Caring and empathetic. Did not change over time.rnrnOffice staff: perception of somewhat disorganized. I had to follow up on paperwork 2-3 times in some instances and get involved with approval process w/insurance due to paperwork snafus that arose pre-surgeryrnrnLeast like: nothing--very happy with surgeon's care.rnrnWhat should future patients know: stay informed and involved with the pre-surgery process--it will make it go much smoother and less stressful. Get to know the office staff and build a rapport with them to help in smoothing out the inevitable paperwork bottlenecks that will arise.rnrnEmphasis on aftercare: Dr. Boynton only accepts WLS patients who are enrolled in the FITSMART program through Virtua Hospital. FITSMART provides both pre- and after care (1 year+) for the WLS patients and is a structured program.rnrnAddress risks of surgery: this was covered in both the orientation program, through FITSMART and through direct conversations with the surgeon.rnrnOverall Rating: Excellent. (Would give Outstanding to surgeon alone and Good for office staff = excellent overall)rnrnSurgical Competence or Bedside Manner: Considering this type of surgery, both are important. WLS patients struggle with self-esteem and self-worth issues that can be negatively impacted by a non-empathetic doctor. Dr. Boynton was both surgically competent and possesses a great bedside manner.rnrnThe only other area my particular surgery could have improved in was post-surgery. I was in intensive care for two days where the nurse:patient ratio was excellent. Once I moved to the regular ward where the ratio was 1 nurse to every 9 patients, there was confusion by the nurses on treating a WLS patient (tried to give me huge pills to swallow and wouldn't remove my catheter even though surgeon approved it). There was 2 needs identified: 1) to improve the nurse:patient ratio and 2) to educate NURSES on their knowledge of treating post-WLS surgery patients and improving their bedside manner (many aren't on-board with the program and put patients on the defensive about their personal reasons for having the surgery.)

At this stage, I've only met w/ Dr. Boynton once, but he was exactly as others on this site have written. Quiet, not real chatty. Answers your questions. He requires his patients go through a structured pre/post program called New Beginnings. It's not cheap, but I've heard it is worth it. We shall see! I'll update more when I'm further along in the process. Although it seems like I've been looking into this forever, it's really only been a couple weeks...

Dr. Boynton was extremely professional and trusted him right from the first appointment. Office staff was very nice and helped out with paperwork and insurance issues. I would give Dr. B an 11 on a scale of 1-10, he saved my life and I can not thank him enough. You have to join New Beginnings (support group) when you decide to have the surgery, but it is great. You meet with a dietician and RN to discuss everything. They keep you on the right track. I would definetely recommend him. He is a very quiet dr and not very chatty, so if that is what you want, then no. But I didn't care. He awnsered all my questions and was completly competent.

Dr. Boynton is a wonderful person. He truely cares about his patients and is a very spiritual person. He has never lost a patient. Should a complication develop he stays with the the patient or in constant contact with the hospital staff. I am completely comfortable with his as my surgeon.

There is a structured pre-op and post-op program through Virtua Health in New Jersey. This includes extensive pre-operative testing and both pre and post op support group meetings with a behaviorist, nutritionist, a health care manager, fitness center.
