I can't say enough about Dr. Ameri. I am 46 and was borderline excess weight for surgery. I have thyroid disease and a family full of diabetics. After years of struggling with weight and realizing I could do this now when I'm healthy or in a few years when I'm heavier and not so healthy I started looking into surgeons. A friend recommended I see Dr. Ameri and so highly recommended him that I called him. After meeting with him there was no turning back. That decision will never be one I regret making. He is a fantastic person and surgeon. He is very honest and tells you right up front what's what. You can count on what he says and believe every word. His demeanor and straight forward discussions gives you such a sense of trust. I had a retroperitoneal resection surgery back in 2007. This is a major open surgery that creates a lot of internal scar tissue. I brought my surgical reports to Dr. Ameri and he discussed them with me. He agreed that the sleeve was an option but due to the scar tissue the bipass was not. We decided to go forward. Not only did he do the sleeve but he took time to go above and beyond and remove a lot of excess scar tissue that was bunched up inside me. The previous surgeon closed with glue and steri strips which loosened causing a huge scar down my center. Dr. Ameri also fixed the scar so it was a small line instead of a huge ragged gash down my middle. He is amazing. I was so happy to see how my stomach looked coming out! He told my mother I was too young to have a stomach like that and now I'll have a nice flat stomach soon with minimal scarring. He's so right! Not many would take the time to do all that. After surgery I was brought to the bariatric wing (at Wincester Hospital). He had his own nurse there along with the other nurses. I can't even say enough about these ladies. They were caring, supportive and catered to your every need. They talked to you about everything you will be feeling and doing after you get out and went above and beyond caring for me. I felt safe and secure with them and knew they would help me if I was feeling too much pain. They have called to follow up and are all so nice to talk to. Dr. Ameri does not just cut and run either. He himself does a support group once a month along with his nurse, nutritionist and a therapist. It's a place to go and talk to others who have had the surgery or others considering surgery. You can talk about your successes and struggles and it's a great way to touch base with Dr. Ameri. He REALLY CARES about his patients. You are not just a number or a paycheck. His ongoing care shows you every day how much he cares and how much he wants you to SUCCEED. If you are thinking about any type of weight loss surgery I urge you to contact him and meet with him and his staff. You will not be disappointed!!!!
Dr. Ameri is a wonderful surgeon and one of the kindest men I have ever known. My surgery couldn't have gone any smoother and I'm extremely happy with the results.

I have been post bypass surgery now for 2 + years. You will never meet a doctor more concern with your health and well being. Dr Ameri has the best bed side manner. He greets you with that smile and you feel at ease. Dr Ameri takes a pro active approach to your care. He leaves no stone un turned. I learned I also have to take responsibility for myself. I feel forever indebt to Dr Ameri, he game me a NEW LEASE ON LIFE!!!
My first impression was \"why do I have to wait so long\". After I met him I realized why. He has so many patients but he also treats you like you are THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS when he is with you. The girls who work so hard in his office are extremly over the top nice ALL THE TIME!!! Marie is a god send! She is compassionate and makes you feel like she is there personally to help you! I know when I hang up she makes the next person feel the same. The girl is ALL heart! Mary is the same, although I don't talk with her as much but when I do she is right on top of what I need. My experience has so far been wonderful. I began calling in May, got a date at the end of September 2008 but put myself on a cancelation list. I got a call to come in earlier and I accepted. The entire office is considerate, helpful and go above and beyond the call of duty to accomodate me. I hit a bump in the road by having a problem with my thyroid. THey quickly got me an appt with an endocronogist which was more than my own primary care doctor could do. Instead of waiting until Dec 08 to see a thyroid doctor they got me an appt a week later. I got my thyroid in order and they got me back up and going. They give you multiple options of doctors to see to help get the preliminary pre op appts done. I am so pleased that Dr Ameri and Louise made me go through all the prelimary appts because my thyroid problem would not have been found. They also care so much about the person as a patient. I called other places but I felt like a number on a chart. The biggest thing I learned after research was Dr, Ameri is on the ASBS Center of Excellence list. THere are only two places in Ma that are on that list. Going through surgery for me is hard. I was so scared to even make the first call. When you call Dr. Ameri's office you can tell they are ALL committed to helping you! It's not just a job to them. They are wonderful. I will update more as I get closer. My advice, choose carefully, this is a long haul and you want a committed team that knows what they are doing, but also you want the kindness and empathy from the entire staff that you need to be successful. You don't want to feel like you are bothering them when you have a question. You need to feel like your questions and concern are being validated, they do more than that. They make you feel at ease. You know that they are ALL in your corner routing for you to succeed and become a leaner healthier you!
Dr. Ameri is great! He was my friend's doctor and she recommended him for competency and for personality. I did research and everyone has great things to say about him. He is the head of Winchester Bariatric surgery (center of excellence).
Before I even met him, I had talked with his staff a few times on the phone. They were great also. And after meeting him, the great experience continued. Dr. Ameri and his nurse Louise were both so nice and took their time to tell me about the surgery, answer questions, and it made me feel better. You can tell they really care about their patients.
He has emphasized how important it is to have followups, take vitamins, and not to get pregnant until atleast 18 months as well as many other things.
They have a monthly support group which Dr. Ameri and Louise are both at (he runs it) and that is something that is worth attending.
I will say they seem really busy since they are so great! But they are worth waiting for an appointment. When you are there, they do not rush you at all and spend as much time as you need!

First impression was better than I ever expected. Very informative and helped me think about things I was overlooking and helped me to research more of the positive things rather than just the negative things I was "dwelling" on. I cried because he told me I was SUPER MORBIDLY OBESE and that hurt, I waited for a while to meet with him but so didn't the people after me because he took time with me to make sure I had all my questions answered.
The hands down BEST office/nursing staff I have EVER had contact with, so helpful and caring like I am the only person they are helping!!!!
Don't think that Dr. Ameri will get you in and out,my personal opinion is that this is one of the best things he takes his time with each of us and makes sure we know all what we need to know, his monthly support groups are fantastic offering a wealth of information with different speakers and open questions and he is honest and forthcoming with good happy outcomes as well as the not so good sad endings for some people, so far I have been impressed with how he takes his time and makes sure it is all done right.
I am scheduled for surgery on APril 19th 2010, I will let you know how everything goes and if I feel the same about him after surgery. I think you need to meet with your Doctor and make sure you are comfortable with them for yourself Dr Ameri is a good fit for me, you need to decide for yourself who is good for you.
I met with Dr. Ameri for my first consultation today 2/13/09. I like him a lot! He is very honest, kind and caring. Yet he is firm in wanting you to lose weight before having Surgery. I know he is right. Even if I was upset at the time. He means well. Louise, Dr. Ameri's assistant is wonderful! She has a beautiful smile, and she makes you feel so at ease! She is very helpful and right on things! I am very impressed with everyone at his office. Alizka
When I first saw my surgeon, Dr. Ameri, during the support group he runs once a month I was immediately taken aback by the overflowing amount of kindness and love exuded from him for his patients. Everyone had nothing but kind words for him about how he talked to his patients to the aftercare of the surgery. It really was amazing to this, I've never seen anything like it! His office staff is exactly the same, so caring and kind; wanting to answer every question you have, making you feel as comfortable as possible. I would recommend this surgeon and his staff ten fold, a million times over for every single part of this process.
First impress ion of Dr. Ameri was at a group meeting, I was impressed that a Doctor would really be at this meeting after his office hours.rnrnOver time you know that Dr. Ameri really cares and so does all of his staff. rnNo matter when you call or what question you have you will alway get an answer, if not from Dr.Ameri one of the staff will answer. rnrnrnrn
DR. DARIUS AMERI IS A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING AND SURGEON. IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS. A GIFT FROM GOD. I HAVE WORKED IN THE MEDICAL FIELD FOR YEARS AND I HAVE YET TO MEET ANY DOCTOR AS CONCERNED FOR HIS PATIENTS WELL BEING THEN THIS DOCTOR. I HAD MY SURGERY 5-22-06 I AM DOWN 101 POUNDS. DR AMERI AND HIS STAFF ARE FANTASTIC INFORMATIVE AND SUPPORTIVE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SURGEON TO ANYONE WANTING GASTRIC BYPASS. YOU WILL BE IN GOOD HANDS.
