David Wernsing Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS

Dr. David Wernsing changed my life, there isn’t much more to say. He supported my decision knowing what procedure was right for me. I even went back to him for my lap. Gallbladder surgery several years after VSG. He is a big part of the reason I can practice medicine today and be the best doc I can be. Thank you so much.

My first impression of Dr. Wernsing was "ok he looks like he's a good surgeon". (I know very shallow) As my 1st meeting begin, I realized he really is a good surgeon. He took the time to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into and what the surgery entailed. He explained the risks and benefits of having WLS. He was very detailed about the surgery, he even went as far as drawing on a sheet of paper what he would do. I was confused at first didn't know if I wanted the LAP-Band of the Gastris Bypass and he explained both procedured. His office staff is great, the Dietician a lil strict but great; that's what we all need...right? The office does have aftercare and it appears to be structured and they recommend you have follow-up care until 5 yrs. out. I believe he's competent and confident about his abilty to perform WLS. His bedside manners I guess were good, he's a surgeon so I know they don't spend a lot of time with you once the surgery is done. But he expressed care and concern so I was comfortable. If you're in the Philly area and looking for a great surgeon I would recommend Dr. Wernsing and his team.

My first impression of Dr. Wernsing was 'Wow, he is so young.' The more I spoke with him the more I realized I made the right choice in surgeons. His reputation was superior to anyone I had researched in the Philadelphia area.

His manner was matter of fact but not in an abrupt way. He has a sense of humor that really put me at ease.

Regarding his staff, you could not ask for a more professional group of people to work with. Any and all questions were answered. I never felt like I was in the process on my own.

The structure of the program was well laid out and easy to follow from the first visit, through all steps necessary to be approved for surgery, right through what would be needed at home after surgery. All risks and benefits were explained thoroughly and I was encouraged to complete internet research.

With Dr. Wernsing and his staff, aftercare is a significant part of this program. Dr. Wernsing and his staff will tell you right up front that if you are not willing to make the changes necessary for success after surgery then don't waste your time or that of Dr. Wernsing and his staff. I really appreciated that candor. If I had to rate Dr. Wernsing on at scale of 1 – 10 I would have to say he rates a 10 +++ as does his staff. I never had any doubts or concerns other than some anxiety of leaving the life I led previously for the changes that would be necessary for the Gastric Bypass surgery to be successful. I express this to Dr. Wernsing and he assured me that it was natural for such feelings and helped me through those issues.

If you are looking for a physician who is surgically competent and has a wonderful bedside manner Dr. Wernsing may be the right choice for you as well. I have no regrets and I feel like Dr. Wernsing’s talents along with the assistance provided by his staff have given me a new lease on life.

I have not seen or met him yet. But i have researched him and all the folks that i have spoken with about this man are are WONDERFUL!!!I wil have a consult with him 4-9. He did not rush me off and let me take my time to ask the questions that I had lined up for him. I had heard great things about this Doc and his partner Dr Kirkland. I must say I was pleased with his answers, mannerism, and just general comfortness of the entire meeting. Denise who handles the billing was very straight forward and up front about timing of schedule surgery when she would be calling the insurance company and also when she would be handling my chart. I must say that i enjoyed everything about todays consult. rnrnJULY 8TH 2004rnI HAD MY SURGERY ONE YEAR AGO TODAY AND I MUST SAY THAT THRU THIS ENTIRE JOURNEY DR WERNISING'S KINDNESS, SUPPORT AND COMPASSION MADE THIS TRIP A WONDERFUL EXPEREINCE. I did and continue to do what doc said I should and I have lost and kept off 200 lbs.... I was 385. 400 pounds was not an option and so i was blessed with meeting Dr Wernsing. I have recommended him and still recommend him to those who want the surgery, If Dr. Wernsing ever need people for support on commercial I would beat everyon in the line to be first. I thank God everyday that he put me in place with this man who looks no more older than 20!!!(smile), but looks are decieving(sp). Don't let looks fool you. THIS MAN KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING! Good first impression of him. He's very down to earth and realistic. I've only seen him once, I'm seeing him again on Wednesday 7/9/08

From what I had read and heard I was really expecting the worst. From what I had heard he's not a bad guy but gruff around the exterior. rnrnI did not have that issue at all. He made a great first impression and was easy to talk to. He encouraged my questions and put me at ease. His experience and training plus his statistics have me completely at ease. His staff was pleasant and very thoughtful.rnrnI am really looking forward to starting this process, and having Dr. Wernsing as my surgeon!

I adore Dr. Wernsing!rnrnMy first impression of him was that he was polite but reserved. All business. The longer I know him, the more I like him. He's warm and supportive. A really good guy. And an excellent surgeon. I've trusted him with my life more than once now. rnrnMy WLS was 10/31/06 and he also just took out my gall bladder and did a biopsy on me recently (July 07).rnrnI cannot recommend Dr. Wernsing highly enough.

He was great, and knowledgeable about every scope of the surgery. He was very professional,and had a great bedside manner. i truly believe that i picked the correct surgeon.

Great first impression. rnDid a minor surgery for me and was very happy with him, his staff and how together things were at Pennsylvania Hospital. Will give more info after my March 8th, 2007 surgery.

So far everything was good. I liked Dr Wernsing. He answered all of my questions. However it seems like I waited forever to see him, the day I went I think it was about 6 off us who had a scheduled consultation with him. He was pretty detailed and since this is my second time going through this process-it wasn't bad. He was calm and seemed laid back. He was very imformative and seems like a great DR.
