I had my inital consultation with, Dr. George Ferzli, on July 16, 2003.
He seems very professional, and knows what he is doing.
His staff are very nice and professional.
I do wish that he was more outgoing with me since, I was very timid on that first meeting with him.
If you have any questions, get your questions ready and ask them, or you can ask at another time if you forget to ask.
He definately emphasizes aftercare. He offers a structurized aftercare program.
All of the risks of surgery were explained to me.
I would rate him an 8 out of 10.
I feel that bedside manner is great, however, surgical competence is more important. I feel that all doctors should encompass both, in order to put their patient and their families at ease.

My first impression of the Dr. was OK. Too quick and didn't want to be bothered. His office staff is rude and not helpful at all.The nutritionist Irene Nicolaides was the worst and what made me leave the doctor.I spoke to other patients who ALL agreed about Irene and that made me realize, I want a staff that is knowledgeble and helpful. A doctor that doesn't know or care how his staff is represending him is a shame. It takes alot to have this surgery and patients don't need or deserve to be treated so poorly and be given wrong and poor information. I now have a doictor whom I feel comfortable with and a staff who cares in a much better hospital.Good Luck to all

My surgeon presents a a very skilled and knowledgeable man with fantastic pre / post op supports. His office staff is very helpful....After-care is crucial and he only wants individuals that are committed to making a change in their lives.....

My first impression of Dr. Ferzli was a very good one. He is very business-like. I like that in a doctor. It lets me know they are serious minded.

My second appointment with him was more relaxed.

His staff was very friendly and very helpful.

He is a world renowned famous doctor, I feel very secure having him as my surgeon.

He offers two support groups. One in his office on Mondays and one at SIUH on Tuesdays.

Overall rating so far is a 10.

I thing a combination of surgical competence and bedside manner are equally important.

I will update again after 9/3/02.

HE WAS VERY NICE BUSINESSLIKE ANSWERS ALL QUESTIONS. HE IS VERY BUSY HAD TO WAIT FOR DATE OF SURGERY. I SEEN HIM A WEEK AFTER
SURGERY VERY CONCERNED AND PROUD OF THE WEIGHTLOSS. HE SEEMS TO RELAX AFTER MEETING
AND TALKING TO YOU. HAS AFTERCARE SUPPORT GROUPS AND WANTS US TO GO AS MUCH POSSIBLE.
HIS OFFICE STAFF IS OK REALLY DIDNT HAVE MUCH TO DO WITH THEM. YOU HAVE TO ASK THE DOCTOR IF WHAT TO KNOW ANY INFORMATION, SOME OF THE STAFF DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE BAND

Dr. Ferzli is a very sweet, soft spoken man. He did not think I needed to have the surgery but told me to think it over, and gave me the information I needed about all of the pre-op consultations I'd need in order for him to even do the surgery. I was a bit staggered by that but I really wanted this so I persevered.

His office staff was pleasant. Had a bit of a run in with them about Surgery dates and insurance approval but that's really water under the bridge. I'm happy that I'm approved and that's all there is to it.

He is very experienced. He is a world renowned surgeon and he is the only one on Staten Island doing this surgery laparascopically. Others do the open procedure.

There is no aftercare program per se, but he referred me to a Psychologist for a pre op consultation and I am going to continue seeing her for a while after the surgery.

I'll let you know about how things were in the hospital after I pass that hurdle.

4/29 - I'm 5 days post op and feeling pretty good. I wanted to post here to let everyone and anyone on Staten Island know that Dr. Ferzli is a wonderful, caring surgeon and if you are looking to have this procedure done laprascopically he is the one to see. I was a bit dismayed about going to Victory Memorial Hospital rather than SIUH but I honestly have no complaints. The staff at Victory were lovely to me and the care I received was excellent.

I will be going for my first post op visit on Friday.

2/7/02 - Wanted to post an addendum here about Dr. Ferzli. Seems that I cannot rave about him enough! I had my annual mammogram back in December and although they didn't see anything on the mammo, the radiologist felt something on examination - he told me he'd feel better if I saw a surgeon. Needless to say I was upset by that whole thing. Since I was due for my follow up with Dr. Ferzli I took the ultrasound films and report to him for his opinion. Dr. Ferzli looked at the report, examined me and in his most confident tone told me that he was not alarmed by the report nor what he felt. He thought it was fat that was breaking up inside my breasts (which I figured too!) and that he would keep an eye on it when he saw me in 3 months. I felt so at ease after he examined me. Like a weight (hee hee) was lifted off my shoulders! He is soooo confident - that is what I like about him the most!! I would recommend him highly to ANYONE in our area for the surgery!!

Very nice, patient doctor. I asked lots of questions and he answered them all in plain english. The office staff seemed pleasant and I didn't have to wait long . I do hope the doctor organizes a support group which I spoke to the Nutritionist and Psychologist about.
6-12-01 I'm 14 days post op and have to tell you Dr. Ferzli and his associates were wonderful, I couldn't have asked for better care. He is very patient and compassionate and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone considering surgery. The OR Staff and the ICU Staff were wonderful at Victory Memorial Hospital.

9-25-01 We had our first post-op support group tonight. It was nice to finally meet other patients of Dr. Ferzli who had RNY surgery.

I was very familiar with Dr. Ferzli's reputation as an extremely competent surgeon with many commendations and awards (Top Ten Surgeons in NY per NY Magazine)and I specifically chose him because I know he is a pioneer in laproscopic surgery, and I preferred not to have the open procedure. He makes the pouch very small and the connection extremely tight to maximize weight loss, and this has made it difficult for me to move past pureed foods. He referred me to a great nutritionist, Dr. Rama Koslowe, who spends whatever time you need going over your questions. It has been about 3 1/2 months, and I've lost 80 pounds, but I am having another endoscopy to see if there has been some narrowing of my connection post-surgically (I seem to be vomiting more lately). Despite this, I am grateful not to be going thru some of the horror stories you hear about. Surgical competence is definitely the primary consideration. His associate, Dr. Cacchione was wonderful, and never failed to put me at ease. Would have preferred SIUH, but had to go to Victory Memorial - the ICU staff there was fabulous.
