Prior to meeting with Dr. Raftopoulos, I had become well aware of this professionalism in and out of the work place. So that you can understand. Dr. Raftopoulos performed gastric bypass on two of my sister in-laws back in 2007 and 2010. While providing support services to my sister in-laws I was able to observe Dr. R's doctor patient relationship both in and out of the office. Dr. R always knew each and every one of his patients by name. He cared for them and listened to every word they said. Never missing a beat. When I decided to move forward with gastro bypass for my own life, I was 250lbs in 2010, I managed to get myself down with every weight loss program, dedicated participant of the YMCA gym and hired a personal trainer. I was only able to get down to 212 lbs by March 2012. I attended the monthly support group on March 14th. Dr. Raftopoulos as usual gave his speech encouraged anyone who wanted to move forward to read the entire packet, where he provided explicit directions for potential patients to follow, with who to call, and what appointment you needed to make before setting up your first appt. with him. He guaranteed that if you followed his outline and your insurance approved the surgery, (I could have the operation in 2 to 3 months) Well, I can say he never expected to have a patient like me. March 15th. I called his office by 11:am after following his directions 100% of the way, and having scheduled all of necessary appointment in order to schedule my first face-to-face with Dr. R. He was surprised, I was even more surprised when 2 monthly later on May 1st. we were scheduling my surgery date for May 8, 2013. Following Dr. R's directions and pre weight loss program, I under went surgery and can proudly say that today, I am 132lb and have never been sick, nor have I ever experienced dumping syndrome or any other difficulties many patients talk about while going through rapid weight loss. I have faithfully attend every support group meeting since March 14, 2013 and have referred 15 patients to Dr. R. for weight loss surgery, All of those patients were successful in their weight loss and continue to move forward. I can say although, I am a go getter type of person, Dr.R and his staff were my personal medical and support team. After surgical procedures Dr. R calls all of his patients to follow up on progress and personally guide them through the next steps. Reminded you to take medications, drink water and follow up with Post-op plan and procedures. 6 months after my operation, Dr. R made sure I followed up with all medical provided, encouraged support group participation and post-op care. I am grateful and truly blessed to have a doctor that cares for every person he works with. He has improved not only my quality of life, but has also improved the quality of life for my family and friends. Thank you Dr. R....
I cannot say enough about how pleased I've been with Dr. Raftopoulos. WLS has dramatically improved my quality of life and I attribute my success directly to Dr. Raftopoulos' skill as a surgeon and the level of care he continues to provide post-op. What stands out in mind is the fact that Dr. Raftopoulos calls his patients each day the first few days following surgery. The first few days following surgery were challenging for me and having a brief conversation with Dr. Raftopoulos provided immense comfort and assured me that I was on the right path to recovery.
I first met Dr R on Sept 7 2012, and I can honestly say he intimadated the hell out of me. I knew however, behind that rigid and sharp exterior stood a man that could change my life. I unenthusiasticly started the Optifast Diet the following week and made appointments with the barrage of specialists as required by Dr R. "Why is this guy sending me all over creation for these tests?" I then realized he was making sure that I was physically AND mentally prepaired. My bypass surgery took place on Nov 20 2012 without a hitch. All up to here was the easy part. An endless diet of vitamins, crushed ice, and protein shakes was starting to rattle my nerves. It was then that it was realized this man himself wouldn't change my life, we would do it together with the tools he provided. Through the following visits with Dr R, I became less and less intimadated. Any issues I may have had were answered promptly either via phone or email. I eventually was allowed a few ounces of solid food daily which was very welcomed. Unfortunately, I had developed a few ulcers, which was a bit of a setback, but Dr R was there every step of the way, be it with an endoscopy or a kind word. This man will bend over backwards for you as long as you prove to him that you want to succeed. I consider it both a privilage and an honor to have him as my doctor, but more importantly as a valued friend.

I had gastric bypass surgery in Sept. 2011. Dr. Raftopoulos is a superb and highly skilled surgeon. He is a perfectionist and only wants the very best for his patients. He is strict with his patients because he wants us to succeed. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Raftopoulos for giving me my life back! I turned 50 yrs. old in 2013, however I feel like I am 20 yrs. old again! I was especially impressed with Dr. Raftopoulos' follow through after my surgery. He called my house several times a day to ensure I was well, and to make sure I was following the post-op diet protocol. I have had other surgeries over the years, and can assure you that no other surgeon took the time or cared for my well-being like Dr. R. He is just the very best!
I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. R to anyone who is considering weight loss surgery. Dr. R is very knowledgeable and cares about his patients success. Since I started my journey with him in August, to date i have lost 72 lbs, I know there will be no problem with the remaining 100 to lose. As I have heard from other patients of his "If you do what he says, you will be successful." Yep, he is strict, but that is what I need, otherwise I wouldn't be where I am at today. I am grateful for my Primary Care to have recommending Dr. R to me.

I should first srart by saying that I work at the same Medical Facility where Dr. Raftopouols is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Department. So, needless to say I had an advantage to see his success rate for surgery. When I first met with Dr. R., I was very nervous, to say the least. After that first appointment I realized how foolish I was to feel nervous. Dr. R. very professional and made me relax immediately. He suggested the bypass was the best choice for me. He went over all the pros and cons of the surgery. His staff was very helpful and very professional also. When I completed all the required appointments and tests we set up a surgery date. He came to my room two times that day. When I was discharged' he called me twice a day for the first week and once a day the following week. He gave me his personal pager number so there was no need for answering service after office hours. He calls back in a timely manor. I feel that he truely cares for his patients. He wants the best for them. He is an execllent surgeon. He is extremely intellegent and highly educated. I am so very happy to have Dr. R as my surgeon. I am one year post op and feel great, thanks to Dr. R. I would recommend him to anyone concedering WLS.
i am presently going thru this process with Dr Raftopoulos i must say although i havent had my surgery yet he is very attentive and truley cares about the success of his patients. i have three freinds that have gone thru wls with him and are very pleased with him as well . looking forward to him preformong my surgery real soon.
I think he is awesome he doesnt leave anything out. U are very well taken care of by him and his staff. I feel safe to put my life in there hands
MY SURGEONS NAME IS DR. IOANNIS RAFTAPOULOS MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF HIM WAS THAT HE WAS A NICE PERSON, IT SOUNDED LIKE HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HE WAS SO REASSURING, I ALSO SAID TO MYSELF IS THIS REALLY THE MAN THATS GOING TO CHANGE MY LIFE?
