Dr. Ku performed my weight loss surgery on 9/8/03.

When I met with Dr. Ku, he thoroughly answered all of my questions and then some. The before care and after care programs are very well organized and run.

I would highly recommend Dr. Ku to anyone considering this procedure.

My first visit with Dr. Ku was 5/13/03. My first impression of him is that he is a very wonderful surgeon! I was very impressed with his professionalism and knowledge of the procedure. He was very open with me about how many operations he has performed and his "track record." He is very kind and really seems to care about his patients. Before talking to Dr. Ku, I consulted with the Physician's assistant, Hileen Lloyd who works with him and just loved her! She is such a motivator and also seems to have my best interests in mind. They both stressed the importance of aftercare and diet and exercise. We only briefly touched on the risks of the surgery because it is all discussed a great deal in the mandatory information seminar and even with the nutritionist, Janelle McCloud who is also wonderful! She is very sweet and cheerfully answers all questions. Overall, so far, I would give them all a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. And that is because we are all only human and I believe only God himself could be a 10 in anything.

Although, these are the things I felt, your experience may be different than mine. I felt that Dr. Ku was a very nice surgeon was very personable. I first met him at the information session at Hershey Medical Center in Aug. 2002. At my initial consult 3/6/2002, he answered any questions my hubby and I had and was very humble about his skills, yet very honest that he can not guarantee what the end results would be. He recently had laproscopic training in Jan. 2003 under Dr. Schauer in Pittsburgh PA, where he was "scrubbed in" for 30 lap procedures and observed even more before that. He has done 7 lap surgeries on his own at the time of this entry, and will have completed approx. 20 before my scheduled date. And because the research I have done on Dr. Ku and the fact that he has done approx. 200 open procedures in the past (with no deaths) I would be very willing to have a lap procedure by Dr. Ku. I am confident that God will work thru Dr. Ku's hands no matter what. The office staff is great. I was even called back to room earlier than my appt. time and was very impressed with the timeliness of the office. Before entering the program at HMC you must first attend an info. session and a support group at HMC. Followed by nutritionist appts. Then there are several required tests etc. before even meeting with the surgeon: sleep apnea, psych. eval., blood work. The info. I have read from HMC discusses a wonderful pre-op and post-op care program. Risks are all explained clearly. I would give them an excellent rating.

My first impression, well, actually he was the Dr that spoke to my orientation group back in November of 2002. I thought he was ok then. Now last Thursday was my date to meet him face to face and one on one, and I find that I think he is rather a shy, kind and very intelligent guy! When I asked a question he didn't seem like 'well, I heard that before, or, why do they always ask the same questions...' rather I felt that I was his first patient and he took the time to make sure I understood the benefits and the downside to having this surgery done! He also showed me where my incison would be located. It will be midline from the tip of my xyphoid process (end of the breast bone) and procede downward for about 4 to 6 inches. He did seem very proud of himself though when he told me that the procedure will only take him about 1 1/2 hours!!! But other than that I see nothing wrong with this surgeon! I have to say, HMC is one of the only places that I have seen so many restrictions placed on the canidate... but you know, those restrictions are in place to keep us alive! I have several friends that have had this surgery and I don't think any of them had the same experience that I am going to have with Dr. Ku and the staff at HMC. Everything so far has gone smoothly! I am not going to answer the questions about his aftercare or bedside manner yet, because I won't know that till May 21!!!!!! WOOO HOOOO I can't wait to be able to walk without pain and breath normally again, or to get a good nights sleep!! Talk to you all soon!!!!

I first met Dr Ku in December '02 and had to wait about two hours before he came in to talk to me. He had read my file and was very nice and informative. He was not very warm but very professional and very helpful. I will meet again with him on February 18, '03.

I met Dr. Ku at Hershey's Support Group Meetings. I found him to be a good listener, kind and caring. He seems to generally care about his patients. Not just the physical aspect but the spirtual as well.

I rate him an 11 out of 10!

I've met with Dr. Ku two times. He was caring and informative. My impression is that he is very competent. He asked me what if anything I knew about the surgery. Then went over everything with me and answered any questions I had. He told me to think about the surgery and make sure this is what I wanted to do.

Dr. Ku took a lot of time to make sure I, and my mother, were comfortable with the surgery and understood everything we needed to understand. He was terrific. Other than getting FMLA papers filled out, I had a GREAT experience with his staff and would highly recommend him! He addressed all my concerns and my mothers and took as much time as we needed.
