About Me

Board certified in bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgery, Leon V. Katz, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a graduate of the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Katz completed his surgical training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, Mass., and Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J. He also completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at the North Shore University Hospital at Syosset, N.Y. Prior to joining Crozer, Dr. Katz served as the director of Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.



With his years of expertise and experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Katz brings the many advantages of minimally invasive surgery with him to Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Dr. Katz performs a wide variety of laparoscopic surgeries including gastric bypass and gastric banding surgeries, as well as appendectomies, hernia repairs, colectomies and cholecystectomies.



Since joining Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Dr. Katz has been named a 'Top Doc' by Main Line Today in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011.

In 2011 Dr. Katz and his bariatric team were found to have the LOWEST Adverse Preventable Events (complications) in the United States as per Blue Health Intelligence.  This is a subsidiary of Blue Cross/Blue Shield that looks at the safety profile of bariatric programs
