My 1st impression of Dr. Reyes was a comfortable and secure feeling. I felt I could trust him enough to put my life in his hands. rnI don't have a surgery date yet cause I'm still lacking 2 appointments (psych and sonogogram/chest x-ray at MNI Valley Image), but I am scheduled for both appointments this coming month. So I'm really excited about it and look forward to getting my surgery very soon.

My initial impression of Dr. Reyes was good. He is professional, knowledgable and approachable. He isn't in a hurry, and he will take time to listen to you if you need to talk. That first impression has been validated as I have gone through the surgery and am now recovering. I find him to very kind, calming and compassionate. He has the kindest eyes!rnrnHis office staff are very good - they try to handle each patient individually, and are genuinely interested and concerned in everyone's well-being.rnrnFor me, the fact that the practice is growing quickly and the staff seem overwhelmed can be frustrating - especially if you have an immediate concern. rnrnI would tell future patients to stay on top of their insurance paperwork, make follow-up calls, and be involved in the planning before and after their surgery. Dr. Reyes has an excellent program, but it is a busy one.rnrnDr. Reyes is an exceptional caregiver, surgeon, and physician. I rate him as excellent. I will recommend him to others.rnrnIf I could make any recommendations, I would suggest a requisite pre-op visit with the dietician to go through how to eat, the diet stages, discuss supplements and vitamins/minerals. This would be the time to provide the patient with the protein powder supplements, vitamins, whey powder, etc. - or to inform the patient where to get these items.rnI would also suggest that it might be good for the dietician to visit each patient in the hospital to help them start eating again.

Dr. Reyes is very business-like. He was very \"up-front\" with me - told me exactly what to expect from the gastric bypass surgery. While in the hospital, Dr. Reyes had several specialists check on me since I was there for 5 days (blood pressure went too low). The hospital has rooms for bariatric patients - special large beds and bathrooms. His office provides lots of support: insurance assistance, nutritionist, regular follow-appointments, supplements available for purchase, a gym next-door (with 2 trainers) and a regular support group meeting at the hospital. Also, he has a liason nurse from the hospital who \"mentored\" me through this process. I had confidence in him and his staff.

My name is Vickie and I live in South Texas. I found my weight loss surgeons name on Obesityhelp.com. Since my city has no WLS surgeons anymore, I chose to drive to McAllen to seek one. My Drs name is Luis Reyes and he is located at 416 Lindberg Ave in McAllen, Texas. He did my laproscopic surgery on March 24, 2005 at the Rio Grande Hospital. I am very pleased with the whole process I have gone through with him and his staff. He took very good care of me both before and after my surgery. He answered all my questions I had and did not try to sugarcoat anything. I was very impressed with his honesty. He has alot of weight loss surgery experience and that made me feel at ease.
The only drawback I have ever seen with him is my appts. at his office are usually not on time due to him still being at the hospital working on his surgical patients. But I tolerate it knowing that if it was me in that hospital, I would want his attention there instead of at his office. Anyway, he has 2 new associates who will be helping with some of his patients so he will be better able to keep his appt time schedule.
His nutritionist is very helpful and has given me a very detailed meal plan for after surgery. She is always happy to answer my questions when I go in for my appts. or when I call her.
I have recvd compliments from both my PCP Dr. and another DR. on the tiny scars on my stomach from Dr Reyes' surgery. They have healed wonderfully and they are tiny little "scratches" that are hardly noticable.
I rate Dr. Reyes as excellent. His bedside manner is excellent, and his staff is the best I have seen in any medical office!
In the first 3 months, I have lost 61 lbs!

The first night after my surgery my blood pressure and oxygen levels fell alarmingly low. Dr. Reyes returned to the hospital at 2:00 AM to ensure I was taken care of. Not only did he stay all night, but he sat beside my bed and held my hand as he watched my stats.

Dr. Reyes looks younger than I thought he'd be. He has a no nonsense approach. He talks to you about all your options and explains them thoroughly. There is no question that he's good at what he does b/c he has a line of patients coming in and out. If he decides you're a good candidate, right there, they start the process. The insurance clerk sits down with you to go over procedures. The office clerk gets on the phone and starts making appointments with your PCP, nutritionist, psychiatrist, and any other professionals you need to see. You leave with a list of appointments, tests, and other things you need to do before the insurance letter gets sent. You leave feeling like your in good hands. The entire staff is friendly and personable. I did consult Dr. Reyes in Jan 2003 for WLS, but my insurance at the time had an exclusion. I was disappointed that the office never offered to work with me on an appeal. I guess that they were more familiar with the requirements of my insurance company and knew that my denial would not be overturned on appeal. It wouldn't have been b/c the company is self-funded and they made the decision the first time. Anyway, I'm glad that I went back.
